GSR and Civic Si question (Kinda Long)

A couple years back when i was in highschool, my friend claimed he had a GSR. He had a home made cold air intake made from that piping stuff , and a stage 3 something clutch. I saw him at my job a couple weeks ago, and asked him what he was running at the tracks. He said he was running 15.2's.
Is that normal for a GSR? I though they ran mid/high 14's. Anyways, i remember he use to always race a bunch of Civic Si's (99's, not the shoe looking ones) and lose more than he won. He's a REALLY good driver. Then i had a flashback of him arguing with other ricers because they said he really didnt have a GSR because of the seating material or something.
So my question is, did he REALLY have a GSR? I mean, if Civic Si's (Slightly modded, CAI, Exhaust...) could beat him, wouldnt i be able to? I remember i use to drive a Civic Dx (My 1st CAr)and he'd smoke me just for the hell of it. So, i kind of want my revenge.
Oh, we live in Southern California. Riverside to be exact. Could that have hurt his 1/4 mile time?

my buddy had a GSR, he was a half decent driver, and couldnt get better than a 15.8, but he was rocking some cars that were in the mid 14's
track numbers dont always reflect what happens on the street, a bad launch, bad 60ft will kill your ET, but on the street, somehow you can pull on those cars with faster times than you
who knows, maybe it was, maybe it wasnt

15.2 coulda been bad conditions or just not that good a driver cause they run around 14.7, could be either its not a real GSR cause the 99/00 civic si runs 15.8 in the 1/4 mile

pretty cool fact though that the 1st gsr ( body before they did the circle head lights ) was faster then the type R, it was a was non vtec b18 with a better compression ratio as a type R so down the line they finnally decided to throw the vtec head onto it which is the gsr we all kno of

i was always under the impression that a 14.8-15.2 was the normal time for a GSR, depending on conditions and whatnot
a FWD car is hard to get that "target" time with, because its hard to launch em

gsr with minor bolt ons(intake, exhaust) should be doing mid to low 15's, high 14's with excellent driver. theyre all top end, so they pick up halfway down the track and take off.
buddy of mine has a 97 LS integra, and did a 15.8 stock and he is a excellent driver.
but none the less, they are slow. i decimated 5 hondas on the way home from the sacramento kings game tonight, a hatch, a 1g integra, a new civic hatch, a riced out integra ls and a stock looking ls. and by decimated, i mean i left it in 4th and from 60 up it was over before it started. the 1g integra i even stopped and was slowing down and decided to race him as he did the flyby and whooped on him a second time.

hahaha I so love that feeling you stomp on it and you put such a lead on them that you slow down on purpose just to make the race a little worthwhile maybe give them a lil lead and then you stomp again
hahah love that sh*t right.
I miss the warm weather

Actually the first GSR's (92-93) had a B17A not a B18 under the hood. And it did have VTEC.

Who was this friend of yours? I raced some guy who said he had a gsr (I think) who said he ran a 15.2 I believe but that was at l.a.c.r. and that track isn't that great. It was an Asian guy with some name of nature like Tree or something. I beat him and this was when I had less mods but he did well. He should live around your area too.

Hey herring, Is your dad gonna bring his car too when we go to the track? I have never raced another mustang there that has gears.

I don't know after my dad installed his pullies they made a whining sound and he's paranoid about things not working correctly. I'm sure I can talk him into going but his car is slow. It's not going to pull 13's like your car. Partly just cause his is a 98. But like I said, I think I can talk him into it.

Your dad needs to do a PI swap on his 98 then. Doing a PI swap will def put him nice.
Theres plenty of kits if not just buy the take offs of those who got rid of them. Def well worth it.
