Would I still get a quicker launch if i only install T-Lok or do I have to get T-lok and gears also?

If you're gonna tear the rear end apart for a t-lok, you might as well do gears man. It may give you a minimal difference....but who knows, I 'd do gears also

Your right, but I've heard it kills your gas mileage with gears.

I don't know the exact mileage differences, but as long as you keep from flooring it everywhere you'll be around the same.

Well what trans do you have. People normally say 3.73 for manual and 4.10 for autos. The biggest difference you will notice is your high speed will be lower and your speedo will be off. I put 4.10's in my dad's ranger with the 4.0 and he gets better gas mileage than I do because of my heavy foot...

The same as it would to have them install plus the cost of a Tow. Actually you cant mess it up to bad unless you install it and dont have a proper lash set on the ring and pinion then you will have excessive wear. But it is hard to damage the rear to bad unless you take a torch or sledge hammer to it.

You may be able to launch higher cause you have the traction of two tires as opposed to one with just the T-lok right? But it shouldn't affect your times too much from what I understand unless you can get your 60ft time down. Now with gears, the higher you go the lower your top speed is but I don't think your speedo is off any at all. At least on my car it's not and I went from 3.15 to 3.23 and eventually to 3.91 which is huge for my car. I get best gas mileage with the 3.23, if you go too low your car has to try too hard and you lose gase mileage or if it's too high you lose it too. I lost 40 m.p.h. off my top speed between the 3.15 and the 3.91 but I don't expect you to cause you have to make a huge jump for that. The computer in my car tells me that I average about 23.8 mpg right now which is what I got with the 3.15 too. That is also how I know that my speedo is not off is because my computer tells me my exact speed to a decimal place.

Gears are the shiat, I got a set of 3.73 now but I'm upgrading to 4.10. It's a big difference from 2.73 I had stock.
You don't need to worry about gas mileage. If it does lose it it's not too bad. If you have a lead foot though expect to be filling up every other day....
Besides, for the first 600 miles or so your supposed to go easy on the new gears so they don't whine. So you really can't floor it for like 2 or 3 weeks.
But when you finally get them broken in and you punch the gas that first time and you leave a cloud of smoke and TWO black lines you'll feel good about the grand you just spent....

it takes the same amount of work to put gears in as it does a tlok for the most part so its a bad idea to just do one unless you cant find an install place that you trust to do the job since a tlok is not as much of an issue when it comes to setting the specs of the rear end, where with gears you MUST check a few specs and make sure its set up right or you will have problems.
DO NOT drag race with a tlok on a stock 7.5 rear end only upgrade to an 8.8.... if you plan to stay off the track it should be fine, you will break a spider gear in the tlok thats the weak link of the 7.5, not the gears.
you will pick up like .2 tenths off your 60ft max, my bet would be more like .1

definatly, you could get .2 pretty easy with some nice slicks as why i said that, but on street tires... if you get a tenth your doing good, basically get it for the fun you can have by sliding the rear end out a little bit cant get that in a fwd definatly a nice feeling.

agreed again, limited slip is just 10 times more fun than open differentials, you'll find that out after you get one

so would you even think twice about getting tlok and 4.10 gears in an 03auto.... or would it be smarter to search for the 8.8 rear end.. i wish i could just find a beat up gt and rape it for parts.

My opinion if it is going to be a street car keep the 7.5 unless you can find a cheap 8.8 rearend. If you are going to mod over 300HP and spend time on the track with slicks then I would either suggets getting a 8.8 or better yet by a GT!!!! Fox bodies and 94-95 GT's with 5.0's are cheap

i cant buy another car due to insurance; plus i love the drop top... however im wondering-- this is an on going project that, i hope to have all basic boltons and a supercharger as a summer project, thus, would it be smart to get the 8.8 rear end... will i have achieved over 300 hp on a 03' automatic with a procharger- or forger it because really dont plan on running slicks or spending too much time at the track

I will stand by what I said in the prior post. If this is a street car and you wont be running slicks and you have a automatic you can keep the 7.5. This will save you money. But if you want to spend the money and get 8.8 that is your decision. Either way is OK. There are a lot of people out there with superchargers and 7.5 rear ends not to mention a boat load of 4X4 ranger pickups with 3.73 and 4.10 gears who give their drivetrain hell off-roading
