there are some young mo' fo's here. i just wanted to see how old my peers here are. i'm 20, 9 months til i'm 21.
also, i have been working on my car or learning about them since may of 00 i believe. so i've only been tinkering with my car for 3 years. as far as experience, i worked in a tire shop and at mercedes benz doing /basic/ tech and ##### work. i've installed headers, nitrous, a new rear end, UD pulley, shifter, blah blah blah and some other stuff. i'm big into *custom* work and i'm probably going to be installing a roots blower within a month or two. i've wired new cobra taillights but i fuggered up and had to redo my work twice. wiring is a bear for me.
now, what about y'all?

Im 15, been working on cars since I was about 8, my dad used to do top end work on drag cars and teaches me alot, I also have a older brother who is 18 and me and him do work on his car all the time, we have changed his entire break system which had to be customized, changed his tranny and rear end, and we are currently working on putting twin turbo on his car, which will involve lots of custom parts.

haha i found that funny.
i was skeered at first to do anything to my car because i didn't understand it. once i knew vaguely what i was doing, i started tearing stuff up and learning first hand. needless to say the parents would curtail my little experiments as often as they could catch me doing it. high school sucked in that way.
you learn 10x more doing something first hand than just reading it online.
white95stang, there is a 'how to' on www.v6power.net that you can use to do a mild port/polish of your lower intake. it's a good beginner project, and you can't mess up too much, just don't over torque (tighten too hard) those intake bolts, or they will snap right off, i've done it!

I'm 16, been working on my car since January. I've installed a carb, an intake, mufflers, radiator, rewired my lights, and some other little junk. I am starting to mess around with fiberglass and I am going to make a custom gauge pod to go in my dash where my radio used to be. And I am also starting to learn about body work from my friend's dad.

I'm 20 going to be 21 in about 19 days...Give me a mustang and i can take it apart and have it back together in due time.I did all of my suspension(CC plates/shocks struts/coilovers)I did a split port swap by myself.I installed and painted my saleen kit(i had it repainted after about a year because i didn't use enough clear).I'm a fast learner when it comes to mechanical stuff. The only thing i haven't tried is engine building...I have my stock short block so i might take it apart and rebuild it to sell it.
I'm lucky because my dad was a mechanic and he was a shitload of craftsman tools...Everybody knows that having the right tool for the job makes it easier to do.

22 as of april 1 2003 (don't laugh :-? ) on my first mustang. completely paid off and in great shape... never worked on a car before, beyond tire and oil changing, spark plugs and the occasional tie-rod... so i'm pretty new, but i'm good at following instructions... just can't really match up terminology to parts... i assume it's an acquired ability... i also don't have much in the way of specialised tools, so i'm really lookin for a mentor to show me the ropes... and i make sure i don't blow myself or my mustang up (that would be bad, as it's my only one)
haha @ this soundin like a personal add...
hit me on AIM and we'll talk... anybody and everybody

going on 50 (31 now, 50 in 19 years)
Replacing a carburator on my 1972 Ford Courier pickup (with a mazda engine) back in 1989 was my first introduction to cars. It pretty much ended there until I got a job working for a shop that repaired computer modules for Mercedes and BMW's, I fixed so many AC and Cruise units I don't want to think about them anymore.
Got my stang in Oct of 02, joined the other messageboard and have been playing with it since.
Purchased an 85 Jeep Wagoneer that I've ripped the engine out of and is currently sitting next to the Jeep in my garage. I'm on the hunt for a 350 4bolt main and 700R4 tranny to swap into it

I'm 22 (4/25/81 - Class of 99) . I've been working on cars since I was about 7. My dad and I would tinker with his cars. I got my first car when I was 14, the 74 Challenger with a 383. The damn thing is stil on blocks... despite my numerous attempts to try and figure out the old 70's wiring (Man, those guys were idiots!!). I got my 66 Mustang when I was 18, and re-built it (the guy I got it from just started to part it out, so I had my work cut out for me). I got my 98 last September, and a lot of the basic knowledge transfers over. But this is the most advanced computer I've had to work with in a car... my other cars.. teh most advanced computer in it was the CD player
