it was like '84.
sounds to me like your not getting enough fuel.
When is the last time you changed the fuel filter? If that's not it put a fuel pressure gauge on it and make sure you've got enough press.

its a 1989 mustang lx with a 5.0 in it. i just changed the fuel filter in it because i thought that may have been the problem. it didnt start doing this until i put that smog delete pulley on and that popping noise is the intake backfiring.

does it do it if you slowly get to the same higher rpms? or does it do it at lower rpms when floored?
edit: did you happen to change plugs sometime in here too (just thinking maybe the wrong plug was used, i doubt it, but just a thought)

no it only does it when i try to floor it. it runs fine when i slowly move up the rpms. i was looking in my book and it said an intake backfire is caused by either timing being off, egr valve malfunction. i think it might be the the egr valve because i took the smog pump off and now it doesnt know whats going on. i changed the plugs and wires a while ago and it ran fine. but i know it starts to burn really rich!

First, check your timing. Usually the only problem that can come from a smog pump delete is a vacuum leak from not plugging everything properly. So I doubt that is the source of your problems. It's probably more of a coincidence than anything.

My car hesitates when it receives gas. rpm flucuates when at idle. will kill car at stopping if air condition is on . engine light comes on and gives a cam position sensor code. but alot of people have told me thats not the problem . when the fuel pressure is checked the fuel pressure jump down with accelration. fuel pump has been replaced and fuel filter. please help

tps? (throttle position sensor) maybe its not telling the pump to get with the program... also make sure your wires are all on nice and tight... it doesn't sound like the same problem but i forgot one wire so i was runnin on 7 cyl and noticed a nice little skip in the rpm needle when i went to start it up.
EDIT: What year and engine do you have btw? might help us figure it out.

you should really post your own thread in the appropriate section... as some of us (including myself) don't check threads on motors we're unfamiliar with. The 2v 4.6 is somewhat related to the 3v you have. Neither are terrible close to the 5.0...
