So we just had a pretty decent earth quake in Socal. It was a 5.0 with a 3.1 after shock. I was in the shower for it which was kind of scary. The epicenter was near MonteCiton so I hope he is ok and the new stang made it through as well.

I made it through fine.. I was on my way back from Disney at the time, didn't feel a thing..
Had several things knocked over in my bedroom, nothing major (shampoo bottle knocked into the tub, swiffer handle tried to escape from under my sink, stack of DVDs fell over, a half open drawer was completely open.. that's about it)
The stang was fine, too.. though the ladder that had been standing upright next to it.. I laid it right down on the floor, don't want it falling on the new car
epicenter is 10-15 miles from me - if it only lasted 15-20 seconds, it probably wasn't near as bad as the 5.4 over the summer which lasted near a minute

This was my first EarthQuake in LA & I slept right thru it. LOL - My husband, all but fireman carried me out of the house. I was standing on the porch looking all confused . The weirdest part for me were the random aftershocks. They measured the quake to be 5.0 at first and then brought it down to a 4.7. The aftershocks were 3.0.
I have decided that I would rather have a hurricane over an earthquake anyday! At least with a hurricane I can prepare a week before it arrives. This sucker just came out of nowhere!!! How do you SoCal folks deal with this?

Hurricanes are no fun either, nothing like a day or two of sustained winds of 60-80mph, and gust of over 100mph. and im 100 miles from the coast. imagine if i lived closer

Oh I know - I have been through my fair share of floods and hurricanes. Hurricane Fran was no joke. I was out of school for WEEKS. Its probably for that very reason why I would prefer to ride out through a hurricane. Im used to it - its what I know. I'm not sure how my SoCal buds deal with this year in and year out. Don't get me started on the fires! But then again some of those aren't so natural.
Natural Disasters suck - period. LOL.

I was in Chino for the 5.4 earthquake and it hit in Chino Hills, 2 miles away. That was a scary one as everything shook and the walls/floors were swaying. That was my first one and last nights was my second. Last night was just a big jolt/shake for me but it almost knocked me over in the shower. I've been through hurricanes, floods, t-storms, and tornados but earth quakes still scare the shit out of me because you don't know they are coming. There's not much you can really do other than have some water and food ready just incase.
I also got caught up in the wild fires in Anaheim last year. I had to drive through them on the 91 freeway and almost go trapped. It crossed the freeway right after I went by, thank god I was one of the last cars to go through. I've only been here about a year but I've been through a lot already.

I've been through a few hurricanes and I don't ever want to go through a earthquake.

That's EXACTLY my point - no advanced warning - no bells go off - NOTHING. My husband said that animals are supposed to instinctually (sp?) know that they are coming right before they hit. My dog just laid there... LOL
I could not imagine being in that situation - I would have FREAKED! You are right though, there is just too much going on in CA sometimes. And what cracks me up is that everyone here is like "oh no big deal, that happens all the time" - sometimes I think the "medical marijuana" makes Cali folks TOO laid back!

We had another quake today..
About 6 miles north of where I work was the epicenter -
it was only a 4.1.. I had the oddest feeling right before it hit, then we had a sudden jab .. felt like someone ran into the building from underneath.. then it stopped, lasted maybe 5 seconds
they are still trying to decide if it was a new quake or an aftershock

Some pictures of damage I took at work today
This is the north end of the building, which is also known as the 'high bay' it's a very large garage/shop open to the full 2 stories and has a parking lot on the roof
There's no damage like this anywhere on the rest of the building (offices are steel frame)

They hadn't been too often til recently..
Last big one was northridge in '94..
Then last summer we had a 5.4 and now this 4.7
It's not as bad as san fran/bay area though, which is pretty much right on the san andreas fault and several others..

Haha, I don't have much to give. I just got out of college so you can have all that debt. Other than that, I just have a bunch of worthless crap.

They are predicting a big one in the near future though. Somewhere between a 7.0-8.5 which will decimate everything, literally.

There was one here last year (center of america) which isn't to often and when it happened i was changing oil on a full sized chevy truck on a lift. Talk about a safe place to be. We've only had two here in my lifetime.
