Besides my gt my dad gave me his 1976 pontiac firebird formula for my graduation present last year. It was both of my sisters first cars for about a couples months and the 2nd one that had it wrecked it into a guiewire for a telephone pole. (i was in it) It fucked up the driver side fender and door. It's a 400 cid automatic Yellow with the black formula stripe on the bottom and the dual hood scoop. My question is how much is it worth. What all do i need to do to get it running. (been sitting for about 8 years) All known mechanica damage is a bend drag link or sumtin like that and maybe a tie rod

haven't really had that problem, but on other forums with other cars, the brakes were frozen closed, diffently make sure they are in working order, all the rubber gaskets will probably have started cracking, maybe not, but probably, check your belts... gas will probably be bad, or not very good... if its kinda low just fill it up, if it was full before being parked i would try to syphin some out (personaly i would do this, but it might not really be a problem) probably just change all the fluids just to be safe. make sure moving parts are free to move and solid parts are not...
i'm guessing it has a caburator, and from what i've heard they dont' like to sit, so you'll probably have fun with that (in shop class we have a metal container with all types of fuels and setitives in it, we put a rusted out lawnmower carberator in that and took a tooth brush to it a day or to later and it worked fine... i'm sure this is a little differnt, but somethin along those lines might help it get started.
i've mostly been assuming its been sitting outside, so ill ask, has it been in a garage for the 8 yrs or outside?
check all your rubber hoses for cracks... radiator hoses, vaccum lines, brake lines ect.
thats all i can really think of, sorry its all drawn out and randomly ordered. i just wrote down things as i thought of them and its passed my bed time

Check the tires as well, sometimes they will crack or rot from sitting for an extended time.

^+1 also check the manufacture date, its debateable, but if the car had older tires on it, and than sat for 8 yrs, even if the tires look good and/or ok they might still be really bad...

well if the starter is turning the engine and its not firing i would check spark on all cylinders or just replace all the plugs and wires (which might be a good idea ne way) but also removing the carb and putting another one on, or cleaning and/or rebuilding the current one since i'm sure its not going to fuction correctly after sitting so long.
are you planning on keeping the car or selling it?

very true on both, let us know when you get a new battery and change the gas, very interested to see how it goes.
