Instead of paying 150 bucks for 01 v6 chrome valve covers, I'm probably going to use silver high heat paint to just go over them and make them look a little nicer than the stock black. Is there anything major I need to know before I do this?
Or is someone who has done it not happy with it?
I may even do my intake manifold as well come to think of it...

wow prices sure have went up You used to be able to buy a set of moroso chrome valve covers for a V8 for about $75. Anyway, spend the extra money on the good high heat paint. They might even make a high heat epoxy paint?? Make sure you clean everything very well with a degreaser then use rinse off and dry. Brake cleaner works well after that to get any remaining crud off and it evaporates quickly. Plug any holes, vacuum ports that you don't want paint in and obviously tape off the gasket surfaces.

I will post pictures, I have ran into a serious rain delay though.
I have not thought about powder coating, mostly because I don't trust the numbnuts around here to handle my stuff. (Dad ordered a rhino bed spray for his truck, lets just say his 2008 F550 had so much black overspray on it that it was hard to recognize the truck was originally white.)
But I've already bought the paint so, just gotta wait on better weather.

^^those look great. BUT, I'm in GA, shipping there, paying for the coating, shipping back.
How much would that run me?

Mine were $145 plus shipping there which was like $25. I'm in Louisiana, so it's not that much closer than you. Also, mine was a little more because it is a candy color so they were coated in a silver/chrome then the red. Also, they will color match any sample you send them for no charge. I painted a nickel with my touch up paint and they matched it.
