A friend of mine is selling his 1990 5.0 GT stang for $1200. Its in pretty good shape it just needs some stuff on the interior but the engine and tranny is fine. I saved $1300 for gears and tlok for my v6 and i was goin to get them until i heard about my friends 5.0. I know dont know what to do. The 5.0 would already have the tlok and more power then if i did the gears in my v6. Insurance and registration is nothing becasue my dad is looking for a second car and could take my v6. What would u do in my situation, go for the 5.0 or fix up the v6?

I dunno, never liked the Foxbodys too much. I also heard those 5.0s didnt really put out a lot of power. I dunno, it's your call really :P I'd possibly buy his car and sell it for more lol

id say go with the 5o, in stock form it will beat a 6er with gears. and the 5o just has way more potential and cheaper aftermarket.

agreed, get the fox... I got my 89 for $700, everything but the trans was in okay shape, minimal body damage.. rebuilt the trans.. did a few mods, then I beat the crap out of it, made 80+ track passes, hit 13s a few times, used it as a daily driver for close to a year now, and it just FINALLY gave out the other day at 184k miles.. I figured itd've gone a lot sooner than that  still runs.. barely haha
btw, if you get the 5.0 and want it to last, stay well clear of the ~6200 rev limiter... I hit it nearly every day in first and second...

with the cam, my power peak was ~200 RPMs higher than stock.. so I shouldn't have been shifting past 5600 regardless... it just sounded nice way up there... plus when you're spinning the tires in first, redline comes up really quick

they're plenty reliable.. but if you want to work it this way.. that'd work just fine, my 89 cost me $382/year to cover under liability only

my 90 5.0 was $480 a year and my 93 2.3 was $240 a year for reliablity. i had them when i was 17, but i had no tickets, multiple car discount, good grades discount, and driving school discount.
