Here's my problem. I can get online as I am posting from my laptop, but I cannot connect to any file sharing programs. Bearshare or Ares will not connect for some reason. I have tried putting my computer in the DMZ on the router. That doesnt work. My friend cannot get on Ares himself so I know it's not just my computer as he was on it earlier at a wi-fi spot.
I can get on mIRC for some reason, but not the p2p software that i use -- bearshare and ares.
Any suggestions would be awesome.

ok brent -- I got sp2 now and it is installed. I checked the box for the exception for ares. It still just says "connecting" So now I know it's not on my computer. It has to be the router. I put myself in the DMZ and that still didnt work. Any other suggestions?

ok. so...uh...yeah.... what is this port whatcha-ma-call-it crap? How do I disable the firewall on my router so that I can download my porn? I mean mp3s I need new music and mirc is the only thing that works for me.
Does ares or bearshare work for anyone else on this forum right now??

port forwarding its easy, however if your in a DMZ you've pretty much forwarded every port coming in to that one computer, this isn't safe, in fact leave it that way overnight and you'll probably have a ton of worms in the morning (no not the kind you fish with)
other thing i would do is contact the ISP because they might have some ports disabled on their end, you know.. rules on sharing, never heard of it on a private connection, but I wouldn't be surprised
