Well it seems it is time to change my trans fluid again. Last time i went with the GM syncromesh, it worked fantastic but i ran into a issue this weekend. back to back runs in the higher rpm range left my shifter notchy and hard to shift. had to let it cool down a good bit before i could shift it normal again. So my question is what fluid should i use that would withstand mid to high rpm runs - ie road course, autox, drift and so on. it could be it just needs to be changed, cause i did it last year about 10000 miles ago, but i do track the car. so im sure its time again but i just wanted to know what yall thought.

I just bought the sycromesh stuff (if you buy it again, buy the penzoil sycromesh as it is the same as the GM stuff only 1/2 price...penzoil makes the GM stuff). It could just be that it is time for a change like you said....

I run royal purple synchromax and have nothing but good things to say about it...I put it in last year, about 12,000 miles ago and shifting still feels just as crisp & smooth as it did then...

The penzoil IS the GM sycromesh...in a different bottle...without the GM name tax.
The royal purple stuff I've heard is good...and I've heard is dangerous to your trans. But, that's the case with anything you want to use. It seems it is hard to get a definitive opinion as if someone doesn't use it, then it must suck. You could try it though and it will probably feel like the GM stuff for a long time...
The problem is, whatever you use may take a long time to start feeling like what you are describing. The GM stuff took 10000 miles you said....so...the next may take that long too.

after reading about gm syncromesh its not good for some components in some transmissions, the T-56 that the camaro and corvette use have different blocker ring materials and such and in the T-56 or what have you in our cars its not good for it~ just research before you put it in, OEM for fluid changed regularly will work fine.

Well, since he has a 5 speed...he's covered.
And I did research before I bought it...

I too am running Penzoil Synchromesh. Read up on it and decided it would be best for what I'm wanting.

I've got Redline D4, and my shifting became noticeably better when I switched to it. It's supposed to be for high RPM shifts and what-not I guess.

To be honest I haven't noticed any difference. Then again I changed the clutch, resurfaced the flywheel, put a firewall adjuster and a quadrant on there...so it'd be hard to tell a difference.
I do know I can shift a hell of alot better after adjusting the clutch where I want it now. Have not noticed a difference in the shifter.

So did my quadrant work out for you then? If so, sweet. It was definitely the right price for you.

I have a UPR speed hook if you don't already have one. The clutch adjuster and quad is a simple install. I went back with Motorcraft Mercon V and I felt a huge difference in the transmission after just changing the old fluid. Can't go wrong with the factory stuff, and I find it hard to believe that a fluid makes a huge difference...

It's like the steeda quick release. It's a single hook quadrant with a quicker ramp up ratio. It is something you would need if you got the MM clutch pedal height adjuster. I had to get the steeda one, didn't know UPR had one.
And I can help you install that quadrant. It's pretty simple...specially if you take out your front seat.

i always liked to use royal purple synchromax in the winter since it is naturally thinner but during the hotter months i would use pennzoil synchromesh
