I ran into a guy I went to high school with (yeah, back in the stone ages...) on my way to work. He was driving a 1996 Mustang Cobra (took some research to figure that out). A little more research and I found that they are rated at 300 (or 305, depending on source) horsepower. We did a little light-to-light and I bogged it some (damn traction control) but still ended up showing him the UAH tag. Just wondering if anybody knew what these things ran?
Here's a picture of his car:

Well I know that a stock 5spd gt(96) will run a 14.9 1/4 so i'm figuring around low 14's stock maybe high 13's with a good driver? Also if you didn't know stock 96 gt is rated at 215hp.

He is right. Those cars need the better heads.

The fact is the 96-98 Cobra's can be at 300-310 rwhp with exhaust changes, bolt ons and tuning. or knocking on 400 hp with just a 100 shot nitrous kit

Quickest Stock 96-98 Cobra, 13.08 at 105mph BONE STOCK
We dyno at 255-265rwhp. They dyno at 225-235rwhp
Our cars (coupes) weigh in at 3325ish stock DRY...they go in at 3350ish stock DRY
ONLY advantage they have is a lower powerband so they accelerate slightly harder, however, our top end pull is enough to over come that.
Stock, our cars AVERAGE 13.6-13.8 at 102 with a decent driver

all you have to do is a intake and head swap and add a supercharger on a 96-98 Cobra and you will be able to pounce on a stock 03-04 Cobra

Every time I see a relatively stock 99+ GT and a relatively stock 96-98 Cobra at the track race it never fails the GT always gets out of the hole faster but at about 1/16 of a mile the Cobra starts to pull and has it won in the 1/8 and by the 1/4 is walking the dog on a GT.

You sure? 94-95 cobras with an underrated 240hp were rated at a 14.9 1/4 mile. Im not sure that info's correct.

I got it off one of the mustang sites back in the day. I'm not positive, but didn't they put slightly bigger gears in 96? I know my gt I had would of been in the mid 15's because it was auto. Never took it to the track to find out.
