wat does porting the upper and lower intake manifolds really do? and wat real HP will i gain by doin it?

Well since you have a 99, you have split port intakes which fromt he factory flow extremely well. It's hard to give hard numbers, but you can pick up about 10 hp from porting the intakes. When you port them, what you do is remove material from the inside to allow for more air to flow through them. Basically think of bottles one is 20 oz and the other 1 liter. What one holds more air? The 1 liter one. Don't follow this motto to the "T" but the basic rule of hp is more air = more hp.

They flow well for a fairly stock setup. Adding bolt-ons they are good, after that they need help.

When I did the first set in April 1999, the guy dynoed it and
the gains were +13 RWHP and +16 RWTQ, but I've done lots
of porting and beginners usually do not know what to do.

But it is worth doing, the porting I did was the only mod tested,
and it was simply the intakes, nothing else. On a totally stock motor.

They flow pretty well, but the gains are from the smoother flow
and less heat tansfer from the interior to the incoming air.
