Yeh, cash talks in dealerships. Wish someone with a Pre-99 would chime in. I'm not very knowledgable *sp on what to look for on those models as far as little quirks go.

Bleh...I am not into either of those Ebay Stang links, no offence but the colors on both of them are boring. Plus I don't want a GT.
Can you tell I'm picky?

look for a 99+ for that price, then talk them down to 5k even. with the 05's out, you should be able to get at least an 03 for what they're asking.
Just don't get screwed at the dealer. There is no worse feeling than paying on a car for years only to find that you still owe more than it's worth. Been there, done that.
Good luck, keep us posted!

Check if the car idles normal. Check for oil at engine start up. Go to the front wheels a see how much brake pad is left. feel the rotors for smoothness. Take for a drive and manually shift the automatic from drive to 2nd and down to first several times to see if a engine light appears. Press down on the front of the car and quickly let go to check and see if the struts are worn. If they are it will bounce up and down. If they are not it will just spring back up.
Dealers will actually disconnect the battery at night and rehook it up in the morning to cancel any engine light that might come up. They will also remove the engine bulb to prevent the code from showing. Best thing to do is ask them to get them to let you drive the car for a while for you to decide.

well if i were you i would go with a GT or at least a 99 up 6er. then i would never spend near 6.8k for that car, you have to work them down a ton, i bet they got that car for about 3 or 4 grand tops. so they will be making far to much at your expense. and do what lowflyn said, bring cash take it or leave it but make sure its no where near 6,800 go for like 3 grand or 3 and a half.

you're welcome to buy my '89 5.0/5 speed
only needs minor rocker panel and floor pan work to be a very solid car... was driven daily for 6 months, new brakes, new hubs/axle seals/pinion seal
The motor's tired but it runs, fires up every time
