I need a computer / electronic expert

Two questions. I have a laptop and a big lcd tv. I want to hook something up to where I can see what i'm doing on my computer on my tv. 2nd question. I got Direct TV and I have a DVR in the basement living room and my room is right next to it can i just hook up some av cords or sumtin so i can watch my recordings on my tv in my bedroom? Thanks guys.

What kind of laptop? Any external display ports? Hdmi, dvi, spdif, etc?

i don't know any think about laptop but i'll tell u what i can its a dell and on the top left portion of the keyboard is says latitude d600. It has disc and headphone jack and webcam jacck and its got this round circle on the back that has a pic of what looks like a tv with an arrow then it has a blue plug this i think its for a monitor and a pink one and one more. And the tv is a samusng i don't know what else to say it was like over 900 bucks so i dunno lol. Sorry for the lack of details.

if you have an HDMI out on your laptop and an HDMI in on your computer, plug it in. Then switch the input to that HDMI line. You will have to turn sound on in sound settings to send it via the HDMI out on your computer (and have it set to receive sound on the HDMI in on the tv).

If you do not have this you may have a computer VGA out or what ever the wider one is called and you can use that but sound wont travel.

I use HDMI on mine, if all you have is component or RCA things hmm not sure without an adaptor of some ort.
