How does Polished Flake ?????? HAHHAHHAHAHHA
Definitions
Chrome is a actual plating process usually done in three steps. First a copper/Bronze base, then a nickel plating then a Chromium top plate. it keeps its shine but is suspect to corrosion and peeling. Moisture is the enemy of Chrome. If any porous areas are present it will peel. If it is chrome steel it will rust underneath and peel. If you live in a harsh winter environment where Salt is added to the roads Chrome peeling and corrosion will be accelerated much faster.
Polishing is a process where the actual surface of a metal is polished. There is no metal coating but some factory polished rims come with a clear coat to prevent dulling. This clear coat will eventually deteriorate causing the polish to dull.
The fact is Polish will not flake. Chrome will.

a good chrome finish will not flake if you take care of it (just wash the car like normal and what not. My oem ford stamped 95 cobra Rs still look brand new. Just use metal polish on em regularly... (even though I didnt have to)
polished will never look as good as chrome, close depending on quality, but never as good unless you spend a TON and get it done extremly good. Its cheaper, easier to take care of, you can buff it out and what not.

You live in North Alabama and not the coast or in salt country. Chrome will start to rust in a matter of weeks in a ocean environment unless you clean your rims quite regularly. The same goes for areas in the north east where salt is put on the roads.
The thing is the first rock chip on chrome and the corrosion process will begin.
Does chrome look good Sure Does!!!
Do I have chrome rims Sure dont!!!!
I have Factory Silver 98 Cobra's that are good looking and low low maintenance.

I have y2k cobra R's and they are polished. I live in Wisconsin so we also get salt on the roads but i remove those rims and put on the stockers for the winter. I have had them for about a year now so they have acutally been on my car for about 5-6 months and they are still as shiney as they were when i first got them. Piloshed is easier to fix if you get a little road rash cause you don't have to worry about the rest of the polish coming off. if road rash happens to chrome it might peel around the area where the damage is. i do polish me wheels weekly and only takes about 15-20 minutes. I like polished but chrome does have a nicer shine.

My chrome rims always tend to rust a bit on the back side where the hub meets the rotor, some of it is just what sticks from the rotor.. the outside and inside have zero rust on em. If you live in a rust prone area then dont get chrome.
polished is fine but VERY hard to keep nice, chrome seems to be much easier to keep looking good from my experiences.

I like them both but something about how polished wheels look just mess with me some times, like they are still dirty or not as shinny as you would like.
