depends on how much money you want to spend. you can pretty much drop anything into it with the right amount of money. however, if your pockets arent that deep i suggest going with the 4.2...
however, if you do have a big of money to throw around... 5.0

3.8, 4.2, 4.6, 5.0, 5.4 SOHC or DOHC, 6.8. That's about the choices available today that will fit in your engine bay.

672 CI, stroker big block
Biggest V6 would be around a 4.7 possibly...

I don't believe a 672 will fit in the engine bay.

It would just be a little more work than anything else would.
Gas Axe time possibly... easier than adapting wiring harnesses
and stuff like that. But then again I have made my own motor
mounts and done extensive fabrication work too, that does not
scare me. Most people want a drop-in install.

It is a 5" stroke, 4.625" bore on a Motorsport Block...
a 557 would be cheaper by far, you could actually
afford to put heads on a 557 but the 672 heads might
cost as much as the whole 557 long block!

i wouldnt consider a 5.0 swap big money...for the price of the stroked 4.2 you can prally throw in a 5.0...but both will be putting down similar numbers or the 4.2 might even be a little higher..(a stock 5.0 atleast...but who likes stock?)

Stuck on Ford power?
If not an Allison V12 will fit, 1710 cid, 1600 hp stock. Of course a bit of fabbing will be required, lol.

Cheapest and easiest is going to be the V6 stroker.
A 300 RWHP street 4.2 will happen this year probably,
I have some people for new cams that could do it.
The longblock is not a huge obstacle, just the cam design.
I have 2-3 cams on my list that can make it! Totally streetable too!
Mild heads, good intake porting and great cam will get a 4.2
stroker into the 300 RWHP range. That would make it a really
cheap and easy option for your needs, also looking at a 6500 RPM
limit on it so high RPM is not needed. It'll probably hit it at 6K actually.

LA?
No thanks, too crowded, too crazy. I lived in San Diego for 10 years and hated it each time I went to LA, which was about once a year. I miss San Diego sometimes though.
