I finished wiring everything up, but the engine won't turn over. I can hear the solenoid pop open when i turn the key, but nothing from the motor. is it possible that that battery has enough of a charge to run headlights and other little electrical crap but not enough to engage the starter?

answer to first question:
Yes
do you have a battery charger? try it..
if that's a no go.. try tapping the starter while you have someone holding the key to the on position
got good power/ground? my '89 once - headlights would work, radio would work.. go to turn key, everything died and nothing worked.. ended up being a battery cable with high resistance..
another possibility.. bad starter
another possibility, something blocking the engine (can you turn it over by hand?)

most likely a poor connection, grounding is important
consider too that if your building a tight motor that being out of time will cause it to not turn over very easy at all!

Still time to bail and get a nice convertible with tennis racket holders!!!
But if you are really having problems. Can you turn over the engine by hand with a wrench on the crank pulley bolt. If you can
Bad Starter solenoid
low battery
Bad ground connection
If you cant's
Wrong crank bearing size
Main caps switched up and in the wrong place.

i am assuming its something with the wiring, b/c this engine was running in great condition less than a month ago and i did nothing to it other than supercharger install, P/S and and a/c delete, and new oil pan/pickup.

a few other points ... you should have your main ground going to the engine, with a smaller lead going to the chassis... got that okay? okay, good... next point... do all your pulleys spin freely? (including SC pulley.. if ones locked up and the belts good, it may keep the starter from kicking over..) flywheel's unblocked, right?
(basically, can you turn the engine over by hand? that's key to knowing you're not screwed )
