removing factory spoiler

I would like to remove the spoiler on my 08 GT to see how it looks because I've seen pics of it and really like it.

My friend and I removed the bolts under the trunk lid but we were afraid to try to remove the adhesive for fear of messing up the paint or body in any way.

So have any of you done this? How did you do it? What did you fill the holes with? I don't plan on putting on a different spoiler afterward.

My personal favorite is Goof Off, some will say Goo Gone but I like the previous better. I was able to take fresh spray paint off the finish of a car with Goof Off and it didn't seem to harm the coating at all. You can also try finding a plastic scraping tool but would still be easy on the finish with all the scrapping and rubbing.

As for plugging up those holes I once found a great article about how to plug them up. In summary the guy bought little plastic plugs that fit in the holes and covered them. He then got some touch up paint, and painted them and plugged them in. He also might have dabbed a little bit of silicon around for a more secure and water tight fit. This also worked nice incase you ever wanted to go back to having the spoiler you can just pop out those plugs.

I appreciate the response. I've read places that floss or fishing line will remove the adhesive. Maybe?
I've also read the goo gone advice elsewhere. Do you just apply it to the places where the adhesive is? I would guess there are instructions on the package. If that's the case then you don't need to explain.

No problem at all. Check it out Temporary Removal of the Spoiler It's for the 99-04 body style but the only thing that might change is the size of the holes. It gives you there pretty much what I described although it mentions a few specifics such as the size of the nylon spacer and where to obtain them.

Another option is to use fishing line and go along so it acts like a knife. It works well on the emblems too. The Goof Off, and I usually suggest that over the Goo Gone, should help with any residue left on the surface.

As for using it yes there are instructions on the packaging, but I usually just dab a little on a paper towel and apply to the gunk. Xylene, the substance in Goof Off evaporates very quickly so you may need to dab a few times and the towel may seem to soak it up a bit, not a real problem but just a heads up. You can just grab one of those little bottles.

You can also try Simple Green, the concentrated green liquid. That stuff is an amazing cleaner.

The 05+ has a lot of 3m tape on it I talked with a auto body guy and he said to use weed eater string it worked great and no scratches

you just have to wiggle it and pull it out, you can tape up the bolts to help keep them from hitting the paint but the biggest thing is to take your time.

On a lowered car no spoiler looks MUCH better but at stock ride height the car is so freaking high it looks odd without the spoiler.

I really like that spoilerless look. My car has the "spoiler delete"-so not a problem. It looks more like a `68 fastback without it-and I can appreciate someone wanting more visibility, too. I'm going to use the nylon plug trick-to cover those dang holes in my front bumper

go with a GT500 spoiler (on ebay 150 shipped or so good quality) and get a low cut spoiler without having to put ugly plugs in the holes the spoiler leaves. The GT500 uses the stock holes.
