Well, several things have happened and I have decided to part out and eventually sell my car.
I know I've said this before but its pretty much 100% gauranteed to happen. The car will need to be sold so I want to part everything off before it happens.
PI Stallion 3000 stall torque converter $450-500
8.8 Rear axle, with 3.73s, quad shocks, ~40k miles $300 + trade for stock 7.5"
Nitto 555R Drag Radials mounted on 95 GT wheels $100

thx spector, updated my info
this combo with a 5spd is good for 13s. With an an auto with the stall and 4.10s could go low 14s.

I believe all you do is swap rearends but keep your axles. Only the axles are different. So on a 98 you keep the axle shaft and you can use a 99 rearend housing and differential.
