End of the line for Thunderbird

Ford Motor Co. said Thursday that the 2005 model year will be the last for the Ford Thunderbird, a retro-styled convertible that went on sale in August 2001. Ford had planned to discontinue the Thunderbird after the 2005 or 2006 model year, but told employees that production will end in July. Ford had projected sales of 25,000 per year, but just 11,998 Thunderbirds were sold in 2004.

Way too much retro combined with way to much of a markup over sticker. Rochester had a 10k markup when they first came out. Give me a break.

they were planning a limited production run car.. like to end in 2003 but it was selling enough (read: they were making a PROFIT on them) that they kept making them hence why it won't be ending til july or whenever

thats what happens when you take a car whose legacy used to be the answer to the corvette, and deface it by making almost as slow as a civic and look like a round terd.
my version of the tbird is a 2 seater convertible with a 5.4l and rwd with very agressive styling and stance. though ford would never want that to happen, because they cannot have another car more powerful then the mustang, oh no. even though when the mustang first came out was just a family coupe with a v8 tucked under the hood, if you wanted big block power there was the falcons and tbird and such.
i think ford needs a second performance car in its lineup. chevy used to have the camaro and the corvette, now just corvette. with rumors of the new camaro coming ford needs to fight back with something more than their current line up.
hell id love to see the austrailian turbo vehicles come stateside and compete with the evo's and sti's and srt4 and dsm's. i find it sad that the greatest country in the world has the slowest cars in terms of factory performance.

i hated them.. but they definitely will be a classic someday due to their historical value. if i had one i would definitely keep it locked away.

seems all the automotive makers are doing stupid things... they need to LISTEN to the public and give em what they want instead of assuming they know.
