hello all,
I am a VERY proud new owner of an 05 mustang GT. Definetly a big upgrade from my V6. After I got it home I finally noticed it only had a few gauges (tach, fuel level, water temp, speedo....no oil pressure and volts). I really would like to have the other gauges but do not want to replace the factory cluster. I found the autometer dash pod with 3 gauges included for a decent price. The thing I am wondering about is how hard will the gauges be to put in? Will the kit come with some great instructions if any one has bought it. Is routing the wires easy? Is hookup easy? and clean? I have searched and searched on the forum but I am either not good at it or havent seen what I am looking for.
here is the kit

I would go with the Speed Of Sound ones as well. I have the 2 pod version on my 02 GT, and I love it. Their bullet style gauge pods are excellent looking. It matches the interior perfectly.

I'm not real big on the a-pillar gauges....almost a little ricey. I like the dash pod because not every car can have a gauge pod like that. You can put pillar gauges on almost every car out there.
How hard would it be to hook up a oil pressure, volts, and water temp gauge??
oh and thanks for the welcome but I have been on the site before in the v6 part. just forgot my username and what not so i re-registered

from most of the ones i've seen id say this to be true, but looking at the sos ones, i kind of want them now, they aren't the huge bulky crappy molded ones you see on every civic in town, if i ever go f/i ill definitely be picking these up
also... welcome back!

the install will be a ton of wires~ but its not THAT bad, you can combine some of the wires. You will have to drill into the dash though. What other gauges do you need?

drill into the dash?? I thought it said everything was mounted with adhesive back. I am doing this because I would like the volts and oil pressure. I had a alternator go out in my 6er and I noticed it because of the gauge.

well the wires have to go somewhere, so you will have to drill holes for them to go down into the dash to be hooked up.
The aero force gauges are quite nice, they are super easy to hook up as well. The only issue is they are only as accurate as the OEM computer in the car is, as they use the ODBC port to read from.
Get electric do NOT buy mechanical gauges fyi. Oil pressure is a great one to have as the stock gauge SUCKS and is useless (if 05+ even have an oil pressure gauge)
water temp is a good one to have as well as the stock one once again is worthless.

Right now I'm monitoring A/F (I have a separate PLX gauge in a Roush vent pod for that), on the Aeroforce I have fuel pressure, water temp, oil temp and charge air temp (for the blower). I did not get the MAP sensor yet to hook the boost up but that's next.
BTW if you do have to have a dash pod, SOS makes one that sticks on and the wires are run through the defroster vent, so no need for drilling into the dash.

im still confused on what you are talking about that you need to drill holes in the dash. If you look at the kit, really look at it, it is pretty much the same as the SOS pod with a different look. I dont like the looks of the SOS pod as is it not made to match the stock dash.
whats the reason not to buy mechanical gauges?? yes oil pressure will be one I will be wanting to put in. 05+ only come with that gauge with the my color cluster I believe.

If you have an idea for something custom...just email SOS. He's a great guy and I run by his shop every once in a while. He's part of our local SVTOA chapter.
He's finishing the touches on a machine that will help him get custom pieces out quicker...I promise if you can dream it up he can make it.

Where can I get a fun meter???
I let my wife drive my car to work yesterday-as I had the day off, and was picking up my old take-offs, and getting her Escape serviced/tires rotated. She called me when she got to work-she had a blast driving to work-and one co-worked passed her in the paking lot with that smile.. That was the first time since I bought it. She really dug it!

the gauge pod that sits on top of the dash just sticks on, no drilling... but the gauges that go into the gauge pod... how are you going to run the wires for them? you need holes to run the wires through. Thats where the drilling comes in.

You can run wires all the way to them with no drilling, just have to know how. The A pillar will pull right off and you can run the wires behind the dash and bring it up at the A pillar with no drilling.
Only drilling needed is where the actual pods mount.

the dash gauge pod snaps into the first row of defrost vents....thats why I was asking what you meant by "you will need to drill holes in the dash"

Yup, I don't have one but was told it's a snap to install. I have the a-pillar one and with Interceptor gauges the whole install was about 15 - 20 min, took me longer to program the gauges then to install everything
