ok so i just bought my car its a 87 gt ragtop, well one day it wouldnt start so i just used a screwdriver to jump the terminals to get the car started. it worked so i went and bought a new starter selinoid, i threw that in and went to the gas station. shut the car off came out went to start it and the starter stuck and kept cranking the car over i could not get the battery cable off so the starter fried.
went to napa bought a new starter and new starter selinoid put that in and thought everything was fine, but went to start it and the starter stuck and kept cranking my car over, i pulled the battery cable off and disconnected everything and put it all back together, and it was all good. but it happens about once every 2 weeks. so my question is why does this keep happening? i tested to see if it was the ignition doing it by taking off the wire for it and its not the ignition.
any help would be great. thanks

I can look at it as an electrical problem, either there is a constant (or rather an accessory/ignition) hooked up to the starter wire which may have been cause if you fooled around with some of the wiring (i.e. you ghetto rigged it) OR it could be a bad key (ignition) cylinder. Something on the inside is getting stuck when you turn the key so it sticks on the starter and keeps sending a signal.

When it would stick, I would pull off the positive battery termminal so itd stop.(ie no power) but if I tapped the terminal with the battery cable itd crank again, it wouldn't stop till I took everything off the selinoid

long shot, but is there different solenoids for that year/model
i would probably go with osirisguy and say the key cylinder, i know those things mess up and can cause slews of problems.

BTW, pull off the negative battery cable. It will do the same thing as pulling off the positive cable but it's safer to do.

To me it sounds more like the wiring to the starter is incorrect (or there is a connection between two wrong wires) or the key cylinder is bad. The cylinder shouldn't be too hard to replace but you might need new keys.
I'd also take a look at what Herb posted, man has plenty of useful info

might be the key cylinder, might be th switch that the key ingages, little plastic on plastic pieces that have metal on each, that run across each other taped in a little aluminum cases that sometimes comes loose and causes the rod to come off that engaged it. hell, I have a brain fart and dont know anything yet except that my brain is fried from paint fumes. maybe by noon I can remeber what that part is that plugs in to the harness and attaches to the key cylinder.
