Best way to face sub in the trunk?

Whats the best way to face the sub in the trunk. I have one 12". It is facing towards the rear, but if i pull my rear seats down and face it towards me will i hear more bass? opinions would be great

My speakers always sounded better if I put them under the actual trunk lid and fired them into the back of the car. It just got a better reverb. The boxes me and a friend just did for my car, however, are firing toward the inside of my car, so we shall see how it turns out. If your box is movable, just move it around in your trunk until you get the sound you want, then use something to hold it in place.

I personally had my subs firing towards the rear. You really dont want the subs hitting the back of the seats - btw if your gonna put your seats down just for the subs you might as well get a rear seat delete kit

It does not matter which way subs face because the frequency is very low...unlike tweeters which you must face towards you in the car. So whatever fits best and looks good is my two cents worth.

I heard that bass travels backwards, so facing the rear of the car they would fire into the cab of the car. But that is just what I had heard a while back?

Technicaly speaking, the frequencies subs put out are unidirectional. However, that's not entierly the case(in a perfect environment, that would be totally true). Sub bass frequencies do bounce like mad off of almost any hard surface. The way your sub sounds depends on a few factors. Enclosure type, enclosure volume, sub type, and a few other factors I probably forgot to mention. Also, every brand and model of sub have different sound qualities.

Bearing this in mind, here's my suggestion.

Try either a homebuilt box or buy one. Just make sure you looked at the spec sheet for the sub and give it the propper volume and enclosure type for whatever sub it is. (make sure it'll fit in your trunk) Then, just experiment. It'll take a bit to figure out what works best. Everybody has different expectations as to what their subs should sound like, so it's pretty much a judgement call.

I find that my HE2 10" (fosgate) does best in a rear corner of the trunk facing upwards in a .75 ft3 sealed box.

It's all going to come down to what you like.

I have my 10" Alphasonik DVC pointing straight up into my trunk lid and in the middle. I think I can hear more frequencies when I do this but thats just me.
