ok guys, Ive finally put aside enough money to purchase some gears and tlok. I bought 3.73 gears, tlok and some friction modifier from gefracing.com. Im thinking about buying a Speedcal to fix the speedo problem. So is there anything else I need before I take it to get installed?? Ive heard something about an install kit?
Thanks
-John

an isntall kit is really only bearings, the gears have shims with em so .... pretty much all you need to get is bearings and seals which is a great idea...but not needed, i would replace the pinion seal, the seal on the axle ends, and you will have to buy bearings of course... these parts are pretty cheap, 75-90 bucks for everything. What ever you do get a QUALITY install... when you shop around, and do shop around some places will rip you a new one, ask about back lash, pinion seal depth setting, how do they set the crush sleve, wear patterns... and a warranty for breakage due to install issues (loose ring gear bolts) and gears are KNOWN for whinning...(due to the back lash and other items not set with in tollerance)....
things can just get annoying and if you do get lower control arms in the future these noises will be amplified... or become noticable... not trying to scare you just be careful who you get to do it... even if its a rip off if you can get a quality job done for 200 bucks more... pay it having a pre 99 i would send all the stuff back and buy a pre built 8.8 rear for 725.00 reuse your stock axles (just pop em in) and then bolt the rear in, put some fluid in it and drive all in all have 800 invested in a 8.8 AND a spare 7.5 to sell for 200~ bucks or to keep for when you need it down the line.

well you pretty much just need bearings and seals, I think gefracing.com has a kit but just call ford see what they charge.. probalby will be more but heck give it a shot and factor in shipping on that price quote also.... Open your gears see if you have shims with em.

check both, also check summit they price match and may offer free shipping.
You CAN install it all yourself, the install is actually very simple.. its the little details that will screw you over... you have to check a good bit of stuff and do it RIGHT this is why most shops wont do it.... or they charge you FAR to much to do it... or they just half ass it.
