Hey all. I have an 08 GT that I got for my 16th about half a year ago (I know I know lol yes I'm extremely grateful).
As far as performance goes my pony's still stock. I'd like to change that.
All I'm really lookin' for is a really nice, muscle car sound and a little more power.
For the power part I know my best bet is a cold air intake, but I have no idea what the good ones are (best brand names for the price).
For sound I know an axle-back system is the way to go, but I'm anxious to choose which one going solely by crappy youtube vids.
I really like the FRPP Stingers (Borla's markup is ridiculous) and the Bassani race exhaust system. I also have a friend that has SLP Loudmouths on his 04 GTO and I personally think they sound pretty good, plus they're very loud which I like lol
Any opinions/advice is appreciated.

I can tell you about my friends 08 gt, he just got it dynoed this last weekend.
He has:
C&L Race cold air intake
Steeda Underdrive Pulley (crank only)
Ford Racing Axle back (same as Stinger Borla)
SCT Tune from Bamachips (running HP 93 octane tune)
he dynoed at 292hp/293tq on a Mustang dyno (reads lower) with an A/F of 12.4 (room to improve)
this is about 310 on a dynojet. With a little tweek of is a/f (about 5% out of it) he should be nearly 320rwhp (300 on a Mustang dyno)
Considering stock is 250rwhp/tq thats not really bad at all, picking up that much from those mods (as others also seem to do not just his) is VERY good for an N/A mustang compared to the previous generation.

Thanks. So you think C&L produces quality intakes?
And those stingers he has.. do they sound as good as everyone says they do? I'm seriously considering those.

they sound pretty good to me, the ford racing are cheaper and say ford racing on top of the pipes vs borla says borla~ only real difference.
C&L are pretty good~ my friend looked forever for an intake he liked, he picked it because its black and all one piece.

I couldn't care less about the name on the tips so I would definately go FRPP if I end up getting those stingers.
I really like your Cobra by the way. If I were you I'd put a roll bar on it! I think those are sweet. But that's just my opinion. Your car is sick regardless.

it's everything. better throttle responce, more power, and the C&L requires a tune because of the better MAF housing. FYI if a CAI doesn't require a tune. it's not really a good CAI, and don't expect any more ponies out of it.

I'll never spend another dollar on an intake that was a big waste of money.

intakes on 94-04 dont do much, but on 05+ with a tune do quite a bit actually (like 20+ rwhp)

I never knew you needed a tune. What about the intakes that say no tune needed? Should I still tune?
And I have a couple friends that have intakes but have never been tuned. Should they be tuned as well?

well with the 05+ being drive by wire the tune makes a big difference in performance. and if it's an auto car it's even more cause you can adjust your shift points and firmness. I know you have manual so that doesn't matter for you.
TRUST ME if you get the intake and tuner package I posted before you will be amazed.

i have an 08 too, i have a tachco CAI and tune their more expensive then the rest but by far the best i think...and ford borla and jba are all basicly the same just diffrent brands and cost's. im personally going for the JBA's myself. flooring it around town i get 14mpg which isnt bad at all for all the fun i have. TECHCO International - Mustang Performance Parts. Throttle bodies are kinda pointless untill u get a supercharger and the same with headers. although loudmouths are nice they dont provide enough back pressure without a S/C either.

I see we have the same model mustang. Don't you LOVE the vapor silver?? My parents surprised me with the color but I know that I wouldnt have chosen another one.
Yeah I'll keep you guys updated on it. I just can't decide if I wanna get the intake and tune first or the exhaust system.

Those doods at American Muscle rock. How are you liking the Borla stingers? BTW-I "wound up" with Vapor-as the result of some last minute dealer trading-when I was trying to take advantage of all of the incentive dollar$-at the end of this past March. It wasn't necessarily a "first" choice. This car did have all of the equipment that I wanted-and that was really more paramount-than the particular color. It has continued to grow on me, however..

I haven't got them installed yet. In fact I just received an email from americanmuscle saying they've been shipped.
But I'll let you know as soon as I've installed them.
As far as the vapor color goes, I wouldn't trade it for any color they offer (except black but it's impossible to keep a black car looking nice).

`Fair warning: it may take a day or two to acclimate to the stingers-especially after getting used to the OE setup. I promise-that quickly "passes"

when you put in the exhaust there may be a little bracket that gets in the way and you have to cut it off on the drivers side, also the tips will sick out to far unless you increase the gap where the pipes slide together (you can test fit first but it may also happen with yours)

ThaBear14-I mean there is a higher decibel level-not just on the outside-but in the interior as well. Don't get me wrong-a nice exhaust note is pleasing to the ear -just the additional reasonance inside the cabin-took me a little time to adjust to. ie. that dood's gonna be louder-sounds sweet to the public-"hey is that a stock exhaust"?

so you bought the axle back instead of a cai and tune? replacing the mufflers on 05+ doesnt make anymore than maybe 2whp.

Yeah I know but I figure there's plenty of time to make it faster in the future but I want it to sound better RIGHT NOW haha.
Yeah I know there's no noticable hp increase from exhaust, especially axle back but that's ok with me.

ThaBear14- when my tech installed the exhaust-we didn't have to cut anything. He did loosen the fittings-on the other side of the axle-enough to create a small amount of space-to get everything to "fit". Then-with the car on the lift-I checked the reveal along the underside of the bumper cover-(the distance between the cutout and the top of the tip)-as well as the distance that the tips were exposed, beyond that cutout-for the sake of symetry. Everything was retightened-walah

Oh that's good to know. I might not even have to go to a shop because my uncle has a really good friend who's incredibly good with cars, hell he even built his own plane once and flew it!!
So I'm taking it to his garage and helping him put it on. Fun and free!!
