best thing to do is to have an on off switch on your jammer, than when you get hit, you just slow down and turn it off so the cop can get a reading...

Cops can write tickets even without a reading if they think you were going fast enough to be dangerous under given road conditions. That means if you are driving the speed limit in a blizzard, they can give you a ticket. I know, I got one, even though I later beat it in court. (because it was a sunny day and I wasn't speeding, he just pulled me over to see if he could fish up something and I was a huge smartass to him so he ticketed me for whatever bullshit he could)
That being said, I wish cops could pull out your radar detector and shoot it if they catch you speeding with one. Maybe I'm just getting old, but when i see people driving 90 mph (spd limit 45) down my twisty, hilly country road with a hidden drive about every 100 yards, it makes me wish a tree would jump out in front of them. I can understand having a detector, I've had one before, but people that use them as an excuse to be a danger to themselves, and worse, other people, I suddenly don't see thier worth. When I had one, I didn't suddenly think I had free license to drive as fast as I wanted.

they don't give you the right to be doing 100+ down roads, at least i don't think they do, i liked mine cause i used to drive on a "scenic" highway all the time and people that weren't used to seeing the ocean would be doing 35 in the middle of a 55 highway and it was sunny with straight stretch. there were very few passing lanes so when i would find one i would be doing 70+ to pass the car loads of people pointing at the endless water. if no one was ahead of me, i would drop back down to about 60-65 and drive normal.

I have a huge grudge against radar detectors...I used to have a cheaper one and got two speeding tickets with it. With the first speeding ticket it started beeping after the cop had already pulled out and flashed his lights, awesome. And with the second one it didn't even go off at all. I'll have you know my detector was thrown into the garbage can pretty hard after the second ticket.
I think the best thing to do is not speed. It's not worth having the insurance get jacked up and not being able to afford your Stang. Plus I think accelerating fast is more fun than speeding down the road.

Yeah the cheaper the radar detector you go (such as Cobra brand) the less they do for you. Detectors are just that - detecting radars or lasar. It will just tell you that someone is pointing a device at you but not necassarily for how long, or where, or when.
Radar jammers send out a slew of frequencies in order to confuse the receiver for the guns, but again depending on how the initially pick up the signal is your first defense.

im using a Escort 8500 X50 paired with a Escort ZR3 Shifter(laser jammer) they work great, gives you alot of peace of mind when cruising on the freeway when over the speed limit. no speeding tickets yet. The V1 has been around a long time but is a proven detector arguably the best on the market. but now days most highway patrol use laser which detectors do nothing against, they can warn you but by the time it goes off it's too late. regarding radar jammers, there has only been few that have worked but have been known to have many issues and must also be calibrated. i had a really good experience monday morning driving home, detector started picking up X band(supposed to be extinct), i won't say how fast i was going, but was way over(note the roads were pretty empty) anyway had alot of time to slow down, finally saw the state trooper ahead tagging people. that saved me alot of money.
