Valentine Radar Detectors are the best out there. The V1 I think it is, is recommended all over. Escort would be another trustworthy brand. I'm not a big Radar Detector user so I don't know too many brands in between, but I would stay away from Cobra products.
yeah I was impressed with the video and I think I might buy it. I live in a city thats packed full of cops around every corner! Its rather rediculous! I hate it, and I think this could relieve my mind lol

you can take the v1 and hook it straight into the same brands laser jammers, supposed to make a nice setup :S
i do speed a little, about 10 over on freeways, 5-10 on hwys, i had a cobra that worked ok, but when i was using it i was out in the woods so i didn't get the random interference all the time, and ya, sometimes it didn't work right (got pulled over for 70 in a 55 purposely passing a car) the cop asked me about the radar detector cause he thought he was really clever, i told him its not loud enough when i have music on and i had it shut off

Laser and Radar Jammers are just that. They jam any signal readers to provide inaccurate readings. Laser and Radar are two different frequencies on a wavelength spectrum. Radar is similar to microwaves and radio waves. Laser is similar to infrared, or invisible light. A police officer will point his Laser or Radar gun at a moving object and it sends out a signal and measures how long it takes to bounce of the object and back to the gun. It takes many readings at once and based on these it can calculate how fast an object is moving.
What a jammer does is send out a bunch of these frequencies the police use in there guns to confuse the gun as to what frequency it should be receiving back. Sometimes an officer will know you are using a jammer because of the result they get (say your driving on a free way and the gun returns a speed of 23 mph or 164 mph) and will still pull you over because you were speeding. I have heard though that because they do not have a legitimate value they can't really write you a ticket for speeding. I've also heard that some cops can calculate a speed of a vehicle and will testify this in court.
And for the record:
The radar guns use something called the Doppler Effect. Same thing you see on the nightly news when they go to the weather man and he goes to their Doppler Radar.
f' = ((v+v0)/(v (+/-) vS))*f
where f' is the observed frequency, f is the emitted frequency, v is the velocity of sound (constant at 340 m/s), v0 is the velocity of the observer, and vS is the velocity of the source. The plus or minus depends on where the source is moving; - if it is approaching, + if it receding.
I'm pretty sure it's rare for most cars to hit that speed at the very least and then to maintain it. I was just trying to pick a random high number. If a cop is unsure of the actual speed he can't just give a ticket, at least in NYS.
BloodySpirit - Did I make it that obvious (especially between my two posts) I can't help it though I am a science major (for now).

The velocity of the observer would be 0 since he would not be moving correct? So how does the ((340m/s+0(?)/(340m/s+----))*f give a correct reading at all? It seems that a scrambled frequency (f) due to the jammer would give off incorrect readings at all times which would lead to an incorrect reading to the velocity of the source (Vs) correct?
Around here cops do what they want! We had a cop shoot down two movers (who he hired) killing 1. Cops going into peoples back yards for no reason and shooting a dog that was chained 9 times.(that means he reloaded and kept shooting) We had a swat team mistakenly bust into a mayors house and shoot his dogs and pretty much said it was tough luck. If you go to court and a cop said you did it then you did it they dont need evidence to prove it. I had a 90 mph speed limiter on my truck and a cop said i was doing over 120. I told jusge it was impossable with the speed limiter but he insist that the cop wouldnt lie.

^ I'd brush up on some law then if cops are just going into people's back yard and killing dogs.
As for the math problem, my biggest downfall is math. However I do think I understand what you are saying.
You are saying is how can a cop get an accurate reading if the frequencies are scrambled? Again I seem to be confusing people more then help. The random (scrambled) frequencies come from the jammer which the civilian has. The police radar emits the same frequency which does not change. Since the jammer does not know which frequency the officer is using, it emits it's own frequencies, all different ones to try a and confuse the radar gun.
and people wonder why im so worried about my right to bear arms. whos gonna protect youfrom the cops? Ive seen cops get calls while in 7 eleven and finish there coffee, doughnut and paper before going. So you cant depend on them either. Although they'll jump at an chance to write a ticket.

Yes I see the point, but just several miuntes ago on our news channel a state trooper got fired because he wasnt writting enough tickes to meet his quo
same here... I think I might be able to get a better price at a store though than online. Most online stores have it around 430, but some have it around 340... So I think I will drive out to a store and see what price they are offering.
MD is no joke. Its so bad that I have family there and I will not visit them.
That Valentine radar detector is purty sharp. I espically love the adapter so that you don't have to use the windshield or dash atttachment. I knew this thing was going to be expensive - $399.99 + $39.99 for my adapter. But then again I have probably spent twice that for all the tickets I have gotten since I was 16 ;-)
I have had my Cobra (Radar Detector) since 2001 - within the first year the speaker went out. Otherwise it still works, but I just have to have the radar in my view so I can see the alerts.

The thing with the V1 is it will never go obsolete. If a new technology comes out, or an improvement is made in detection, you can send it back to them and have it retrofitted...you won't ever have to buy a new one unless yours just gets destroyed.
Also, the fact that it will track multiple sources and tell you where those sources are is a real nice touch.

Ive had mine 4 years w no problems it just gives alot of false alarms in Xband but i know if it says Ka or laser its a cop. Id say it detects about a half a mile away.

I've been running a Valentine V1 for years, and the thing is practically telepathic. I'm pretty sure if a cop in Dallas is running radar, my V1 will pick it up out here in Boston...
The single biggest problem with radar/laser detectors (any of them) is that they are NOT speed-trap detectors. They can only warn you if they detect radar or laser, and they can only detect it if it's there and turned on. Years ago lots of cops started using instant-on radar (and laser is basically all instant-on), which means that you can be flying down the highway right past a speed trap, and if the cop waits to sight you up before he turns on his radar/laser gun, your detector will have no idea until it's way too late.
The trick is to cruise in or near traffic, so when the cop pings someone else, your detector catches some of the scatter and lets you know about it before the cop aims at you. Let that a-hole in the new Camaro going 90 get about a quarter mile out in front of you, then follow him at that distance.
Of course, there are still cops who just leave their radar guns on all the time (usually in smaller towns), but I'd say that's pretty rare out on the highway.

I was looking to get a v1 for constant signals and ontop of that getting the m25 laser blinder, which activates when the car is hit by a laser such as in a speed trap. I figured that way I would be pretty near untouchable.
