Right now i have an 03 v6, and i'm gettin ready to trade up to either an 02 or 03 GT. I was wonderin if there was anything I should look for when buyin it. What, if any, problems should I ask about and are there any recalls on them that I should ask about. Also, are there any differences in the 02 and 03?

I don't know of any problems with the 02-03 GT's. They are identical except for the year models. Just check out any GT really well, get all the history on it you can. GT's aren't known for being the easiest driven cars to buy, normally someone will rag them out. Just be a smart shopper and don't get your heart set on one car, write down exactly what you're looking for and what you're wanting to spend and you should be good.

I've ragged the CRAP outta mine.. its still going seemingly strong at 33k miles..
what to look out for? built up rubber in the rear fenderwells.. take it on a good long road test, make sure there's no axle whine, make sure the trans shifts smoothly (well a t3650 is pretty notchy so don't be too worried.. just make sure it doesn't chatter/grind on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts there's a TSB about this issue, the synchros are appareantly pretty crappy)
slightly rough idle is okay given its a ford V8 with a fairly aggressive cam (for a production car, don't start taking my head off) but make sure there's no excessive leaks/smoking, and get under the car while its running listen for any audible knocks/clattering..
make sure you have all repair/maintenance history...
and most of all enjoy the damn thing

Nah its normal... automatics aren't as noticeable for some reason, but pop the hood, the engine's shaking just as much as ours are

Salesperson will probably tell you that rubber in the fenderwells is extra undercoating!

As a slight difference on the GT's, arent those side scoops different from the v6's. Its hard to describe but I know somebody out there has to know what I mean. They are bigger, and I thought that was one way to tell the difference between the two. But I saw a GT on autotrader that has the same ones I had on my 6, so am I just wrong or what?

Somewhere along the way they decided to go with the bigger side scoops, I know exactly what you're talking about. The 99-01 I believe had the v6 scoops...but I dunno.

The scoops changed slightly from some years in the 99-04 style. I'm not sure which years, but there are subtle differences.

Those are originally from the 35th anniversary special edition cars, then they used them on the Bullitts in 01 I think, maybe in 02 they started to use them on all GTs, not sure. I have them on my 99, but I put them on it.

do you guys suggest buying one from a used car newspaper with mods or do you think a dealership is a better idea?

I like to buy from a dealer that sells the brand I am buying used new. The reason being if people are satisfied with their car they will usually trade it back in for one of the same brand. I also prefer doing my own mods, if you get a used GT with a lot of engine mods, there is a fair chance they drove the crap out of it at least a bit. I know I do, but not that much, you would be in fair shape if you could get one treated as well as mine is. LOL.
