wiring in a trailer pigtail

Need some advice please. I have a hitch install on my 07 GT to tow my tire trailer, but need to install the wiring pigtail. The manual warns of attaching a pigtail. I need to know where to properly install the wiring and not place the harness in jeopardy. Any advice? Thanks in advance....

i don't know about the newer mustangs, or even the older ones for that, but the way my ranger was set up you just had to unplug the turn signal harness and plug in a spliced harness. On my moms explorer the manual said not to splice into the tail lights for some reason, they went to a shop to get it wired and i think the did the same thing that i did to my ranger iirc.
I know this probably doesn't help much, but that is how ford did it on two separate vehicles.
you could also try asking the dealership and see what they tell you

that might give some info, there is one suggestion of running relays and whatnot to the lights, hope it helps

i think that video says exactly what that other forum was talking about, it will light up an led tester, but it won't light up actual lights.. i dunno, good find on the video, i was looking all over for something relating to this.

Personally, hitches on a mustang are retarded in my book, but, it's not my car so I'm just provided the info I have available to me.

retarded eh? Then show me a better way to haul 4 r-comp tires, jacks, spare gas and tools in the car for a day at the track and I'll dump the trailer hitch.

after talking to the local ford dealer and local hitch store, I think the best bet is to go w/ a powered pigtail to limit the draw on the thin ass wiring in the car. Still need to tap the lights, but only to signal the relay that's direct powered by the battery. Thanks for the responses. |

yea, the best thing is to trailer it so when it eventually breaks you are not stranded

i fit 2 people and a set of r-comps in my 94 coupe... still had the retard spare, a floor jack, a tub to put everything in (jackets, sweatshirts, a stuffed penguin that likes to ride in the back seat, rule book, haynes manual that also doubles as a numbers holder, tripod, camera, and water) 2 helmets and i think that is it...
i could have fit my basic tool set in there, but for some reason i didn't bring it :S
i see vettes pull tire trailers all the time at the track, i think its a good idea, but at the same time i don't want to put a hitch on my car.

 Extremely good video-very helpful-and I get the trailer gig. HOT ROD has a contest-whereby, everyone has to drive their race car from track to track-and that means you will have to have more stuff than the car will hold-a lot of doods use a small utility trailer-pulled by the race car...
