i have a co-worker with a 5-speed 95' GT and he says that his RPM's top out at just above 3,000 and it doesn't let him hit the red line. he just bought it a few months ago and as far as he knows the engine is completley stock. the only thing i could think of is maybe the previous owner installed a chip and set it up so that his son couldn't race it or something like that. any help guys?

Hm...could be alot of things. It's pretty easy to check and see if there's a chip installed though. If you want, I'll give directions. Never heard of this before though.

i've never heard of anything like this either. he says that the car runs fine under normal driving. it idles ok and doesn't stall or anything so that's what led me to believe it might be a chip and not a problem with his heads or intake. if you could give me directions i can go ahead and check if there's a chip.

Ok, the easiest way to check is pull off the passenger side kick panel. The ECU is located there behind some wiring. If you know what you are feeling for you should be able to feel on the top of the ECU, this is where the chip would have been put in. If there is no chip, then you will feel there is no hole in the top or anything like that. Ha..I can check in a second if I am there, but can't explain this at all.

Jennifer's car was doing this, and it was a problem with her tranny. Fuckers at a used car lot put dirt or something in her tranny so it would sound good for a while, long enough for the bastards to sell it.

i would just start with a tune up. change oil, change fuel filter and oil filter, new plugs and wires, check/adjust timing. better to spend a little money then a ton of money

Dealership Techs (Mechanics) are usually ok, most of them are fresh out of school for Automotive. A few stay with dealer shops for the benifits and security. Most of the really good ones go to an independant shop, or start their own shop after a few years for more money. Dealers charge the big bucks, but not that much of it actually goes to the guys doing the work.
