yes. logitech is definitely the best speaker for the price (as far as computer speakers, anyway) if your friend had more to spend, i'd point him toward a bose 5.1, but yea, logitech sounds great
if you want a good creative/soundblaster alternative, you might want to look at a turtle beach: santa cruz. it's 6.1 surround + midi interface. i have one on my comp, and it is awesome. got it for $60, it's under $50 now. and they also have a 7.1 "catalina" card for $60 now. turtle beach > creative
peep... http://www.newegg.com/app/searchProd...h&InnerCata=57
it'll save you some money too

well he will be gamming mainly so sound is not of the most importance ... but you just made me think... I need to make sure how it hooks up, my mobo supports 6.1 surround not sure what that chaintech mobo does.

oh no doubt. but turtle beach soundcards are half the price of any creative model, and in my experience they perform at least as well, if not better. so your friend would still have quality sound, and you'd have a few extra dollars in your pocket
turtle beach uses standard pci connections, and they have 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 cards, they're all on the link in my last post
