mid 2002+ calls for 6 quarts with oil filter change (shouldn't change the oil without changing the filter)..
I usually have to put almost 6.5 quarts in to get it midway up the dipstick after starting, filling the oil filter, and letting it drain back.... ....
though I also let my oil drain for about an hour or so..
out with the old, in with the new

Don't know where you guys are getting this 6, 6.5 quarts of oil in a GT??? I use 5 quarts of synthetic Havoline, and a K&N filter. Dont' know the numbers, just look it up in the book where you buy the filter, or sometimes they will look it up for you. After you put in the 4th quart start the engine long enough for the oil pressure to go as high as it will go, then shut it down, add the last quart, and check the oil level on the stick, never heard of trying to get the oil level half way up the stick either, there is a mark on that stick for full, use it. It is very bad on an engine to run it with overfilled oil, this causes leaking gaskets, and oil burning.

6 quarts w/filter for a mid-late 2002+
Why would you only put 4 in to start then add the rest? that makes no sense to me aside from maybe saving 2-3 seconds rather than waiting for drainback?
Midway to full.. basically anywhere's near the high end of the crosshatch area on the dipstick = GOOD Another thing Ford changed, I believe it was 2001?
- the way the dipsticks are to be read.. the TSB is still floating around somewhere's.
Believe me man.. I work for ford, on fords.. and have for the past 3 years, plus at least another 2 years in my driveway.. 2001 and below are def. 5 quarts however.. Just because yours is, doesn't mean everyone elses' is..
PS no need to use the face... I meant to say the 'marked' area on the dipstick .. between max and min.. Sorry it was misread, I figured it was common sense

I take it the newer 4.6, 02 up or whatever has a deeper oil pan on it or something. I think I remember something about the 99-00 engine being a Romeo plant engine, the others may be Windsor. What I said about overfilling engines is still true. Not insulting anyone, sorry, my mistake. I have never worked for Ford, but have worked on my own since about 67, and got an AAS in Automotive Systems in 99.
