Transmission Fluid Smell

Hi All,

Finally got my 64 1/2 Mustang engine (93 302) back together with AFR 165 heads, JBA headers (shorties), E-303 cam, Edelbrock RPM intake, and it runs great. I have a 4R70W transmission controlled by a Baumman TCS and herein lies my problem. Under normal driving( who wants to do that) it works great, however every time I really get on from a stop or at highway speeds I smell burnt transmission fluid. I hooked my laptop up to the controller and the fluid temp never goes above 180 degrees. The smell goes away after a few minutes. Any ideas?

The only thing I can suggest off the top of my head is to go back and double check all of the trans fluid line connections and see if maybe they are leaking. Maybe they are leaking at the point of shifting when the pressure increases?

I'm not much of an auto trans expert though. Hopefully hottcobra sees this thread soon.

no leaks anywhere? possible residual fluid on exhaust burning off>?

Trans fluid level correct? I know the old ones had an overflow that fluid would come out of if you had to much fluid in it.
