My name's Allen.
I got a 2000 V6 Mustang.
I've had it for over a year and am tired of drivin it stock!
I joined this site primarily to get some advice on mods and such.
I know that no matter what I do, any GT would kill me haha
But I would like to get some help on where to start.
Please message me or whatever you do on this site and help me out.
A lot of people go for
Exhaust first, then Cold Air Intake, and so on and so forth.
Well anyways I'd just like to introduce myself and tell you a little about my ride.
Thanks for reading!

have no fear, the 99-04 v6 has tons of potential, and the 99-04 gts are very slow stock so with out to many mods you can hold your own (maybe not beat but be much better off)
I would start with exhaust, a cai, under drive pulley, rear end gears/tlok, and a tune for performance
lower the car with some 17 or 18 inch rims and upgrade the front brakes and add a rear sway bar for handling
if its a manual mustang GET A SHIFTER they make SO much of a difference you will wonder how you could have waited so long.

Usually the first thing people do are the very basic, "do it in your driveway in an afternoon while drinking a beer" mods
CAI is usually the first thing anyone does. Followed by exhaust, some just go catback while others do headers all the way back. Long tube headers back always gets you more power and a nicer sound. Of course it doesn't have to all be done at once. Something else you may wan to consider is going with Dual Exhaust for your Mustang. A lot of fella's get the stock exhaust off a similar year GT and I believe it nearly bolts right up. Some places even make kits for the dual exhaust conversion. Of course you can also go to a Meinike and just get some straight pipes fabricated and welded on.
You can also start by doing underdrive pullies, and work on the suspension, maybe lower it with all new shocks, struts and springs.
Bigger improvements usually happen when you port and polish the heads. Many guys bring this to a machine shop to get done that's experienced. Some guys opt for a larger throttle body and plenum although they usually do not do any good unless the power is forced induction and I think can get too big and actually lose power. If you plan on going FI then by all means go for the bigger throttle body as a preliminary mod.
Usually I'll read how-to articles, or websites, or browse American Muscle and get ideas from there on what I want to do.
And speaking of Articles, look at the top of the page and click on the Article tab. There's some great info there that is user submitted and always looking for more write ups. Not to mention there is a "When starting to Mod a V6 Start Here" (or something like that) article there that will help a lot.
Whatever Mods you do or don't do it is always a good idea to get a new tune. Go to a reputable dyno shop and get one custom made for your car. Avoid "off the shelf" and ebay "chips".
There are also the non-performance mods (like visual ones) that just make the car more personable. These are good too if you're waiting to do a big job or don't have a lot of cash and just want to work on your car.
As for the whole driving a V6, from what I know this forum started as a V6 forum so plenty of guys here drive them as well. And many of those guys are much faster then the V8 guys.
No matter what, get some pictures up!

welcome :thumbs2:
Yes, our v6's may be missing two cylinders, but that's not always a bad thing. Insurance can be cheaper, they are lighter with better weight distribution compared to the v8 mustangs, and building a v6 mustang that can hang (if not beat) with a v8 mustang is that much better to the person who spent the time/money building it.
Yes, in stock form they are slow, but some careful and effective modding will make them fast and fun as hell.

94-98 gt's are 215hp/285tq *98 had a bump in hp to like 225....
99-04 gt's are 260hp/300tq *had a bump by a touch in tq in some year
the 94-98 in auto run mid 15s, manuals low 15s stock
the 99-04 in auto run high 14s, manuals run mid to low 14s stock

One more thing, my car has a TON of miles...
205,000+
Is it really worth it to invest a whole lot of money into mods when the engine has so much wear to it?
I've also looked into engine swaps, but I'm not sure about that because from what I've read in order to do a successful engine swap you have to switch out just about everything.
I love my car, it is my first one and have made lots of memories with it over the past year I've owned it.
I'm just not sure if I should invest a whole lot into it when it has so many miles.
So, I guess the main question is:
What do you suggest I do?
Buy a newer (03-04) Mustang
Engine Swap?
Don't worry about it and do mods anyways?
It would be at least one year before I got another car.
And I really love the 99-04 body style.

if its been taken care of then its can go 250-300k miles its all about condition. If you dont mind selling the car for another one you could get something with much lower miles for a lot cheaper~ thats all up to you though.
With that many miles I would want to make sure its in good shape before I started beating on it. Bolt on mods wont make it wear out faster~

there are v6's in the 9s in the quarter so anything is possible, its all about what you want in the end. A fast v6 or just a Fast car in general that will depend on which route to go.

I don't really need a 9 second car (though it would be nice ) because it is extremely impractical for my daily driver.
I definitely won't be spending $3,500 on a supercharger or turbo.
I'm going for some small things, bolt-ons and such to make it sound better maybe a little more power, and overall a more fun car to drive.
What I have in mind is:
Cold Air Intake
New Headers with some type of true dual exhaust (2.25" tips)
Sway Bar(s)
and possibly Trac-lok differential with gears.
What aftermarket (performance) brands are best?
I see a lot of folks with BBK CAI, and BBK Shorty headers with Flowmaster 40's.
And I really enjoy coming to this site.
I have learned so much in the past week I have been a "member."
It's great!

gears and tlok would make a nice difference, other than that i don't know a lot about the sixers...

intake, exhaust, cai, gears/tlok, underdrive pulley, and a tune should make your car about .6-.8 faster in the quarter

What gears do you suggest?
3.73 or 4.10?
I have an Automatic Transmission.
Do you get gears/t-lok at the same time?
