2 things...
doesn't the camaro have more hp?
and
i haven't been drag racing before, but the guy in the camaro didn't seem to know what he was doing, just wonder if i am correct in this assumption.

Lol...both are sucky drivers #1....
2nd, you're pitting a top of the line car with the mid range Mustang. Not a fair comparison IMO...but Mustang still won lol.

I have never been to a track let alone do I even know a lot about the subject, but those were both some pretty shitty drivers. Camaro driver took the title for that though.
The Texas track posted a response, where they changed drivers so the driver has to take a lot of blame for the time, however they switched drivers and it still ran a 13.43
 :
2010 GT is supposed to run 13.5's (if I'm correct) and a local apparently runs his stock auto (I do believe factory 3.73's) is running low 13's. And apparently there is a 2010 K&N air filter and O/R mid pipe that's running high 12's. With a few more bolt on he's now mid 12's! Does this sound right? I kind of feel like I'm talking out my ass

did a quick search, motor trend got a 13.5 with a track pack mustang (3.73 gears and 255/40/19 Pirelli PZero tires)
i was wondering abotu that when watching the vid, i saw the mustang doing a burnout and was wondering if it just had standard tires on it.

Jeez, that just defied the law of physics....how can a car that totally beat the mustang in everything but handling (says car and driver) lose in a drag? What a fuckstick, obviously neither can drive, but the driver of the Camaro should feel really stupid.

Automobile Mag this month has an article comparing the Camaro and the Mustang. The Camaro won by a little but it had a 6.2 and the Mustang had a 4.6 I believe.

camaro = faster stock for stock but not by a ton (due to overweight issues on the camaro)
it really wont matter... the mustang will still outsell and be more popular than the camaro... plus wait till next year when the mustang goes from 315 to hopefully 400 hp... that bump should put it back on top since its not to much slower in stock form than the camaro.

It all depends on weather or not they put the revamped 5.0 back in the GT's.

yea they best put the 5.0 modular engine with AT LEAST 400hp in the 2010, with 3600lbs vs the camaro's weight it will have no issue beating it stock for stock.

How much would that engine increase the price of the GT though. You know how ford is with "new release" products and pricing.
However, if Ford put the ecoboost v6 in the base model mustang, and a 5.0 pumping out at least 400-425 in the GT, and the price only increased slightly, that would be sweet...then all the models in stock form would be whooping the base/SS camaro's asses.

Oh, to the video, that was an excellent display of craptacular driving on both sides. But I still give props to the mustang...I'd definitely take a 315hp GT over a 422hp SS.

I dont expect the GT to go up in price very much as the 5.0 motor will not be only in the mustang but also in the f150 and such so it will be spread around.

don't forget though, those new engines are on borrowed time in the mustang at least cause of the new mpg law coming in like 7 yrs... i know trucks have a little bit lower standard so the f150 might make the cut... hopefully ford will spit out a ton of f150's after taht time so people can still have v8 mustangs...
back to the vid... i ment to ask what was up with the mustang flashing his brake lights... or hazards? like i said before i don't really hang around a drag strip, but it didn't look like he was down the track far enough to be stopping...

The only thing I have to add to this discussion is a local guy was pretty pissed that he was wasted by a stock new edge (I believe) GT in his auto SS. Might have been an S197...but...none the less, it was stock, less power, and beat him handily.
Me, I saw a couple run at the track. Not impressed. 14.10 and 14.3 out of one. Hell, my stock 00 GT was running 14.1's. The other ran 13.80s and I think a 13.6 something.

I didn't notice the hazards flash. I know during "unsanctioned races" the winner will flash their hazards to indicate they are the winner.
I got 24 mpg (at one point before I drove around back in NY 26mpg) on my trip to PA, coming back we went a little too far north and wound up going through the Lincoln Tunnel and right through midtown Manhattan (Times Square) and still came back with a 25.89 mpg. Did the whole trip on a single tank of gas, nearly 300 miles. [Sorry I am just very excited about that fact]
To hear that a stock New Edge is beating the SS Autos puts a big on my face. Now I have the idea in my head that if I see one at the track I might be able to give him a run for his money.
The worst missed gear I've ever seen was when the guy went from 3rd to first and the driveshaft catapulted him. It might have been on here too, I also don't watch a lot of them, but that was the worst I've seen.

The "maro" is also slower that new edge mustangs...so it is definitely NOT the car to have right now. If I was going for a heavy sports car I would be all over the challenger...not the "maro". I know the guy I was talking to that was beat by a new edge wasn't so thrilled with his new purchase after the fact...
Now, when you say it is the baddest car of the year, I agree...only, I mean it in the true sense of bad.

I never said the challenger beat the camaro...I just said if I wanted a heavy ass car I would go with the challenger since it looks so much better than the camaro.
I've driven an S197 mustang...and I've ridden in a couple. I've never driven the camaro however since someone that does own one, and knows how to drive (several NHRA Wally's on his desk in his shop), stated he was beat down by the previous body style mustang...with much less power...I can then infer that the camaro is NOT the car to have right now. Not to mention the less than stellar times I saw them run at the track.
However, since you do love the camaro so much, I do think you should figure out a way to get one since it would make you happy. However, the blanket statement of being "the car to have right now" is not quite applicable.

Not to mention the "car to have" has lots of problems - electrical, gearbox, what else is there? How many years has GM been designing this car? Supposedly to blow away the Challenger and Mustang? Not to mention (IMHO) the styling of the car is complete ass. If you thought the rear end on the Mustang was disgusting then you've never seen any part of the Camaro.
Now that's not to say the Mustang has no faults, but it's not Ford, Dodge, or even Toyota or Honda that's making GM cars look bad, it's GM.
IIRC the 0-60 times between the Camaro and GT is a difference of 0.2 seconds which the Camaro takes with it's 300HP over the GT's and apparently GTs are outrunning the Camaro with little effort. All the reviews bring the GT and the Camaro close in call and the Camaro only wins over the testers, and thus the comparison, because of the 700HP engine and it's slightly better engine performance. However even though the Camaro has an IRS suspension the GT outperforms and is a more comfortable ride.
Now I'd like to say I'm biased on this but from seeing them both up close, reading the testing and reviews and stories from owners the Camaro seems to me it's only a novelty of the times. Which also leads me to believe exactly why the Camaro beat out the others and that' because of politics. Now I'm not saying GM paid the magazines to give them a better review, but when each new model comes out they always get great reviews and in the long run a positive word helps the American industry.
But I also have a Mustang because it makes me happy and although it's hard for me to believe, if owning a Camaro makes someone happy I'm not going to rag on them for that.

I think 90% of it is hype. The camaro has been gone since 02. Many people said that generation of camaro wasn't that great...(not that the 2010's performance and styling is any better IMO). So every bowtie fanboy is running out and buying a camaro. That's ok, let them have their moment of happiness and pride...it'll all take a crap on them soon enough, hell it already has!
I'm not saying I hate the new camaro, I'm glad to see it and the challenger back in the ponycar war. I was getting tired of seeing cobras destroy imports anyways
I just think it will fade away as GM tightens the knot on fuel efficient vehicles. Hopefully Ford will keep a v8 mustang in the lineup along with all of these super efficient vehicles.

The new camaro doesnt appeal to me looks wise, Its not bad.. but its just not for me. The rear is horrible looking... but not nearly as bad as the 2010 mustang.
I do like the 426hp in the manual but... still its far to heavy. I would personally rather have my car over it.
The new challenger is a tank! that thing is HUGE. I got to see one parked next to an old one and MAN is it bigger... its sad.

Not a fan of the styling of the Camaro.. its like they tried too hard to make it refined, and failed on other things.
As for tanks.. I parked my 09 next to a 65 stang... and nearly crapped my pants at how much larger it was. Those old cars were SMALL! maybe I'll get lucky one day and get my hands one one.

the new camaro has been around for like 5 years before they actually made it so... the styling was already out dated when it came out
at world of wheels last year I saw an old challenger parked next to a new one and the new one was much bigger. Someone was telling me how it may be big but back in the day they were huge... well after I told him the new one is much bigger than the old one he kind of didnt know what else to say lol

How is "retro" styling ever "out-dated"
But seriously, yeah, I know what you mean
