My Dell has officially entered the catagory of "T3h Suxxorz". PCI wireless slot not working, mouse messed up, terrible battery life (for both of my batteries), it shocks me every once and a while, shuts off randomly, mouse touch pad is messed up. All this remains after I formatted my computer, so it is all hardware and prolly the motherboard. New motherboard replacement is comprable to buying a new computer...so that's what I want to do.
I am trying to decide if I want another laptop or go with a desktop right now. The laptop I would get is an HP with AMD 64 bit and dual layer DVD+/-RW drive, 100gig HD, 1gig memory and dedicated ATI video card so no sharing. Pretty good machine. And it's only $1200 at CompUSA with no intrest for 18mos.
I know for $1200 though, I could get (or build) a desktop that would surpass that in everyway. I would miss the portability of the laptop, being able to move about, and I have no real place for a desktop, but I use my laptop like a desktop anyway.
Suggestions? (sorry for the long post)

I got a Dell Inspiron 9100, and it's a beast. I love it.

f*ck dell. That is what I have now, and will never own another again. After doing research, dell's suck. I have gone to a couple repair shops and they all said the same thing. "another dell?"
I have had so many problems with mine, and I have 3 other friends with different models of Dells all have problems w/ theirs, and we all bought ours around the same time (w/in 6mos). Dell = the suck!

Yeah, Dell sucks. But at least they're my bitch for a few more months.
I think I'd just build (that means have someone build) me a sweet desktop actually.

Money being equal, you'll get alot more machine if you go desktop. I've got a Dell laptop, but I don't use it for gaming. It's just for when I need to take it places or I feel like browsing the internet from my couch.

custom desktop > laptop
but i would get a laptop if you do a lot of traveling and you actually need a computer in mobile locations.

it all depends on what you want to do
like stated, if you want to do alot of pc gaming and have a pc that you cant move, then get a desktop.
if all you want is to do shit on the net, do school shit and be able to use it anywhere in the house(or anyplace where the inhabitants are dumb enough to have open WAN's available) the laptop is the way to go.
btw ive had my dell desktop for about 2 years now, and aside from reformatting a year ago to clean it of 50 million viruses and spyware, it runs like a champ. im thinking about getting a laptop next since my desktop is good to me. when i reformatted and restarted for the first time it had like no drivers so the screen and hella other shit wouldnt work, so i called dell and the guy walked me through(after a week i couldnt find the problem) and he figured out the folder the drivers had a different name than the folder the drivers should have been in, so i renamed it and bango it ran fine. i will be getting my next lap/desk from dell. i hear you can call them and tell them you dont want all that extra crap installed so you have a very unmolested pc as far as useless crap programs(like the HP storeboughts come with).

Dell is a four letter word. The Profanity filter should catch it. Sadly, It doesn't.
I tried to price my laptop from dell, and they are on drugs. I went to the BX and found TWICE the machine that dell would have sold me, and for under $900.
Dell tried to tell me they were giving me a military discount, of 2%. That doesn't even help with the sales tax.
Fvck Dell. Fvck them in their stupid asses.

I've had a dell laptop for 2 years now. Good laptop, about time to reformat though. But I've had a few parts repaired under warranty and the dell guy drives to my apartment, fixes my laptop while I'm watching, and doesn't charge a dime. You just can't beat that.
