Ceramic headers or steel/chrome?

So im looking to buy some headers for my car. (08, GT) I am looking at getting bbk shorty headers.

The ceramic cost around 400, while their chrome finish ones cost 290. Is there a big difference? (besides the price)

The ceramic is a superior product, it reduces heat and won't flake or fade like the chrome plating will.

Then again, who is going to be looking at your headers.

Choice is up to you, I'd do ceramic if it was me though.

I had read that it reduces heat before, but do you think it is a substantial amount? And how much will it affect it, considering it is running out to the exhaust, and not into the engine (I do realize its bolted to it though...)

It does reduce heat but I've never seen studies proving how much, finish aside though I would go with longtubes, they're more expensive but there's no argument they give you more power.

I would get long tubes, but Most of the mid pipes to go with them are o/r, and the catted ones are running around 5-7 hundred.

Im going to get shorty headers (bbk), borla stinger catback, and high flow cats.

Do you all think it is worth the money for ceramic?

and I would get an o/r pipe and put cats on it... but Im not paying for labor, and installing the headers with some help.

Dunno I dont even have my license. lol I get it in like 2 weeks. Um I dont think we do... but I have already talked to my dad and he said I had to have cats if I wanted the car to leave the garage lol.

well if your looking for power out of this exhaust i would say get the long tubes or use the money for something else. Stock manifolds flow almost as good as shortys. And if there are ways to make him think you have cats

Yeah I know... but um Im pretty positive he would know. It bbk says that you get 10-15 out of their shorties, and 20-25 out of their long tube.

Plus 10-15 hp wont make much of a diff in the future. I hope withing the next yr or two (after doing engine up grades such as jlt cai, steeda underdrive pullys, and bbk tb and steeda spacer for better mileage, and of course a tuner!) I am hoping they will come out with a rear seat delete kit that is hard not soft... and I want to have two 10 lb bottles of zex hooked up (mainly for show lol I dont want to die this young). So 10 hp or so wont make that huge of a difference.

But shortys, long tubes alike... chrome finish or ceramic. On the long tubes its like a 200-250$ difference

Those shorties will not make 10-15 hp. With everything you listed you'd get about 20. Unless you got a really good custom dyno tune.

yeah youre better off spending the money on something actually beneficial. keep your stock manifolds and buy upper and lower control arms, and whatever you do dont be like paul walker and get "two of the big ones"

Well man that all depends on what you want to spend. Those thing you mentioned would get you some hp but that money can be put elsewhere for more. Like a port and polish of the heads and a gasket match would do more than those. You could get some cams but not to nasty of ones with a stock rotating assembly. And honestly don't get a handheld tuner get a dynotune that will make 3 times more power than that tuner. Rear end gears would make it accelerate like a mother fucker. Short throw shifter won't add horses but will definatly help. Just say a price and goal and we'll let ya know

I dont plan on blowing my engine... lol and whats a good brand for control arms?

I don't know alot about suspension but i wouldn't go with control arms first

I know someone that fully regretted BBK headers. Apparently to get them in you have to ding them up a bit to get them to fit right.

For suspension parts I'd go with Maximum Motorsports.

Damn my bad I missed this post lol. Um right now I only have around 300... but I was planning on spending a total of 1400 on the exhaust and around 1400 more on the engine. where and the hell would I get a port and polish of the heads? and wth is that? lol

Yeah most of my posts are for no good reasons other then to bring up my post count . It might have been an 04, I'm even more surer that it was a new edge since I originally thought about getting the same, or similar, and then I read that post.

Port and polish is basically "boreing" out the intake and exhuast runners and polishing them. You can get that done at your mechanics shop. Make sure they gasket match it also.

Someone had posted about it a while ago and I read that the tubes were bent and had kinks and it wasn't the first time, it went back to a manufacturing error. I think BBK makes great products, headers just isn't one of them.

If you are completely serious about spending for exhaust then I always recommend Kooks [supporting my locals!], many others will recommend them too. If you don't feel like dishing out the $1,000+ price tag for them great alternatives would be Mac and I think Borla makes their own headers as well. Don't know how good they are but I'm sure they aren't the worst out there.

There are also plenty of other mods you can do as well, but exhaust is a great way to start. Speaking of, what do you currently have done?

Port and polish is also good since it helps the "inhale"and "exhale" of the vehicle by opening up air ways of the manifold and cleaning up any rough surfaces. This usually helps so that the holes for any intake parts and exhaust parts match up together and there are less restrictions.

I would only do headers if you dont have a cai/tun/exhaust/udp as those will do more and cost less (per hp/tq gain)
