well, nobody says that he had to be hit directly in between the eyes. there is still a pretty good amount of flesh on the left side of his head. like mentioned above, the human skull isn't very thick, and the energy released from a bullet impact could be capable of blowing open a head like that.
you're probably right about it being a bigger round, but i'm sure that a smaller weapon could do that as well. i know you've seen pictures of ballistic jelly hit by small arms. just look at the temporary wound channel that gets opened up from the hydrostatic shock...
this site shows a block of ballistic jelly being blown up:

I am a lic weapons instructor and have used ballistic gelatin before. The reason I know it was a larger round because of the missing material. With a small round it can open a head up but mostof the material will be attached, like a bag blowing open. I studied kenetic energy and ballistic energy in weapons school as well as in my job as a Engineering Analyst on Aircraft crashes. I will stand by the projectile hitting that head was a 50Cal or a 20mm shot from above and hit almost dead nailing the forehead and blowing the top, back and bottom of the skull out

I just talked to a friend who came back from afghanistan. He brought something up. Police and Civilians over in Iraq and Afghanistan can use hollow points because Geneva Convention rules do not apply. The rules only apply to Military use. Law Enforcement here in the U.S.A use Hollow points or as the Federal agents call it Extreme Terminal Performance Ammo.

The reason Law Enforcement uses hollow Point ammo is not for the reason most of you think.
A hollow point round is less likely to go through the target and hit what is behind it. Makes it "safer" for use in urban areas, where a large population may be affected by an incident.

i don't knoiw if you've ever played raven shield, but the weapons with a high rate of fire are really eratic. the recoil pushes them all over. it was just pointing at the legs at the time of the screenshot.
