- if i un-install my subs/amp, can i keep the same wiring setup running from my battery to my trunk w/ nothing hooked up to it? will doing this drain power from the alternator if there is nothin plugged in to the wires?
- can i use the same gauge wire to power a multi-channel amp for component speakers?
in a nutshell i wanna remove my old subs and amp and drop new amp and components without having to re-wire everything from the firewall. is this possible?
If you unhook your amp from the power wire, take out your fuse, hence no power beyond that point to the wire. And yes, you can run the same gauge wire to the multi channel amp without a problem.

I stored my car all winter with the fuse by the battery out and the positive out of my amp and nothing went wrong.
That would be because there is no power going to the wire beyond where the fuse goes. Doh. And yeh, look under your hood, look for a wire running from your battery that doesn't look stock, unless someone did an incredible install. There should be a case on it about a foot down, open it up, there'll be a fuse inside, pull that fuse out and vuala, no more power.
