CD player power fluctuates

Ok, my friend just picked up a 97 Jeep Wrangler and I swapped his Blaupunkt over from his old car since the thing kicks ass. He was a cheap bastard and didn't want to buy a harness so he told me to just hardwire everything together.

So I bypassed the connectors and just spliced wires together. All speakers work, the thing turns on, it turns off when car turns off. Everything works perfect except for the fact that every so often when he changes cd's it shuts off till it seems he hits a BIG bump or by some luck it just powers back on for no reason.

My first thought for this was the ground but I have re ran a ground to a new location 3 times including straight to the battery one time out of frustration. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG? Is it internal you think? He has a 6 year warranty on the thing.

Sounds like a short in the wiring to me. Did you use connectors or...god forbid, just twist the wires together. Please tell me it was the first. Anyways, check all the connections real well, sounds to me like a short somewhere in the wires that is causing this.

I twisted them together, I've had mine done like that for almost 3 years now and I haven't had a problem with them yet. I'll get him to dish out 5 bucks someday and go down to radioshack and get some crimp connectors.

Yeh, twisting them together will lead to shorts, I'd put crimp connectors on first, and make sure it isn't as simple as that.
