Has any one had the problem of a wheel constent steering wheel vibration. mine is at 62 mph. and no, it is not a balance issue. had it before and after changing tires. had alignment recheck. also it seems to have a small grinding noise in the right front. this is heard only on a very smooth parking lot and only on a left hand circle. only 6000 miles on the car. have been told by Ford that it is commen for the mustangs to have a wheel vibration. true or not ? having trouble getting ford to "look" into it.. any ideas out there ??

with smaller sidewall tires you will feel the bumps in the road more~ but if at XX mph its a constant vibration that goes away if you slow down to a given mph or speed up to a given mph then its a balance issue... might not be the rims/tires but something that spins. It could be a rim out of round, it may balance but still be a little off~ I doubt it but something to think about.

My 05 GT has always had a slight vibration in it right around 60 +/- 2 mph...
Typically, vibrations are caused by balance issues as spector said above, but the other alternative is that at somewhere around that speed of 60mph you could be at or nearing the natural frequency of whatever rotating part is generating the vibration...
In the end, i have never had any issues out of it, 53,000 miles later...It's not a violent vibration at all, just a little extra twitch in the stearing wheel around 60 mph...

Tell your ford dealer u want it fixed. I'm guessing you bought it new from them and still have the warranty? There is no excuse to have a steering wheel vibration without something being not quite right. And at that speed I would say 95% of the time is the balancing of the tires or a bent rim. If you sure the tires were mounted and balanced properly then I would first look into the rim. Any reputable tire shop knows how to check for a bent rim. Another way to check would be to rotate your tires. If it goes away its in the tire/wheel assembly that would now be on the back. If it is still there, check your front end components (tie rods, ball joints) and the run out on your rotors. But above all else don't let the dealership tell you its normal without even looking at the car. You payed the money for the car wich includes the warranty.

run your hand along the surface (contact surface) of the front tires, if there's a broken belt you will feel it, which will also cause a vibration and a left to right wobble when going about 10mph.

warrenty, o' ya, 50/100,000 on this Mustang, better than my 09 f250 desiel.
details on vibration, got this GT as a demo, after i purchased it, i noticed a vibration at 60-62. dealership had Just "realigned and balanced the tires", changed the oil etc.
spoke with the dealership, some of the people stated this was inherate to Mustangs.
a few weeks later, I had larger, wider tires put on the car. same problem. had the tire shop recheck the balance. (high speed balance) same vibration, as allways with no change. its not bad, just irriating.
so; front end was checked for alignment, two differant set of tires, rims have been moved around. vibration still there.
also when making a left hand turn in a smooth parking lot you can hear a low rumble in the front end. to be truthfull you must must really listen to hear it, it is never there on a right hand turn.
trust me , I am not that pickey, its just that this is irriating and i would love to get rid of the vibration if possible, with out taking the car back to the dealer 20 times.

get someone to drive the car so that it makes the car going slow while turning and try to pin point the location better than check in that area for rub marks or anything that might point to something defective. It might be something like a messed up bushing

skully- I also have a 2008 S197. I have owned 4 SN95 Mustangs- a MaCh1, a 40th Anniv. GT, and 2 Cobras. If there was ever a vibration in the front end-of any of those cars-it was easily pinpointed, and rectified. (There was also a bunch of F150s-when the body style changed in 2004-that had mysterious vibration gremlins-after the factory "re-designed" everything. They never were-as far as I know-able to figure out the problem. we had a little of that in our 2006 Supercrew-`just lived with it, as it was not bad..) When I first got my 2008-I too noticed that dang steering wheel vibration at out that same speed. I had all of the stock wheels off-checked, rebalanced, rotated. `Was still about the same-`slight difference, only-when it went back together...
I thought that when I purchased brand new wheels/tires-and that's provided that nothing is out-of-round-all would be cured. Well it's there-a little-and I just live with it.
At a slightly slower speed-it's non existent. At a slightly higher speed-it's also non existent.
I have thought of changing out the steering rack with a more expensive aftermarker unit, and possibly some other high end steering components : but for the foreseeable future-it's "good enough" for me. I'm just glad that "I'm not the only one" that has experienced this..

I've had excellent results-with wheel weights mounted on the inside of wheels. my installer does it "both ways"-depending on the style of wheel..

i dont know where you heard that but it doesnt matter where the weights are on the rim it will be balanced if the correct weight is used.
i also have the same problem with my 07 i notice the grinding much more when i reverse with the wheel cut to the left but i am pretty sure something in my suspension is bent or worn out (a lot of pot holes around here)
