Ok, so it's not really a job, but it still rocks. I'm shadowing some orthopaedic surgeons. Today was my first day, and all I did was follow one of the doctors around, and we talked between patients and everything. It was awesome. Today was really busy, since it's a Monday, and he was having to pick up other doctor's slack, on top of all the people who got hurt over the w/e and waited till Monday to come in.
One guy almost had his finger cut off today, he will probably have permanent nerve damage, but I get to watch the surgery to repair his digital nerve later this week or early next week.
Another guy shattered his shoulder. He moved it, and it sounded like a steam roller on a gravel road. I get to watch a total shoulder replacement whenever that gets done.
And the last guy I'm gonna talk about sprained his knee, and probably has a tear in the meniscus, which is like the cartilage "pad" between the 2 bones on either side of your knee. He had fluid draining into his knee and surrounding area, which led to a pretty large amount of swelling. They stuck a needle in his knee, and withdrew 55 CCs, which is about 1 3/4 ounces, of fluid from his knee. It was pretty gross looking, haha. I was cool though.
I can already tell, I'm gonna like this job. I hope I can make being a doctor...

that sounds awesome......im thinkin of going into pharmacy or radiology. Shadowing a radiologist may be fun, dunno how exciting shadowing a pharmacist would be though

Oh wow!! That's awesome!! I'm doing something sort of like that this summer, except I get paid and get to practice my clinical skills. I'm in RN school and I'm rotating through all the departments at a hospital this summer. Good luck! I'm sure you'll get to see lots more cool things!!

Better you than me. I'm glad somebody wants to do it, 'cause doctors sure come in handy when you need 'em. If the world was populated by six billion me's...we'd just have to learn to do without.

I'm on my lunch break now. Still pretty cool. Nothing spectacular today, yet.
I will get to see some serious surgery, hopefully this week.

Nah, I'm not getting paid for this. I was supposed to, but now I'm not.
It doesn't matter to me. If this helps me get in medical school, and it will if I make it, then it will be worth much more than they could pay me.
