I am wanting to switch to 410 gears what all will i need? I don't need tloc, but i need to know how to get the speedometer correct and if the transmission will shift properly. I got the gears for $125 and my friend is doing the install (what all will we need) to do the job? also what can I expect for top end speed?

Why dont you need tloc. I think it is such a waste not to take full advantage the tloc provides. Traction to both rear tires not just one. You want to make it go fast but you are going to skimp on a real performance gain?????. Honestly I would not waste any money with gears without tloc.

I agree with Corey.
And you will need a chip or flasher to correct the speedometer, that is the only way on a 99+ automatic.

www.gefracing.com has the best price on the 7.5 tlok. Do you have an install kit with shims? If you replace the carrier I would also do new bearings and races, and possibly new bearings and races on the pinion too.

Unless your friend is a TRAINED professional that knows how to set backlash, pinion depth, set the crush sleeve, check the gear wear pattern, do NOT let him install them... they will more than likly whine and drive you insane if not break and take your whole rear end with it... I am only telling you this cuz such things have happend to me and others I know its a very very bad idea... I dont even recommend using used parts... especially Tlok units.
You need to get a tlok unit its the SAME amount of work to stick one in and if you care anything about perofrmance you will want one also.
a good install usually runs 200-300 pay the extra to get it done by a pro however and get a warranty on the gears for whinning. OEM ford brand is the best to go with when it comes to gears. richmond are known to whine due to their design.

There is also another place that is good for Tlok's and bearing kits www.differentials.com. They are about the same price and are always stock. I have beeen turned off lately with the policys of GEF with their no return on any installed parts.

You will need a install kit for around $60-$80 it includes new bearings. This is a must

My bearings ran me 60 bucks, I just had the shop charge me for them. You will definatly want to replace them for sure. Other than that you seem to be set. If you had a manual you could have got a speedcal unit and solved the speedometer problem but oh well.

ok it took two months but i finally got the tloc from gefracing because they were on national backorder or so I was told.
If I get the work done without the chip or flash tuner do you think this would tear up the transmission due to rough shifting and whatnot???

That is not exactly true. I replaced my T lok a few weeks ago. I contacted GEF and they said the same thing to me and I called www.differentials.com and I had one the next day. They are never out. They carry every make and model differential for just about every car on earth. Plus the guys who take the orders are tech people also so they will never sell you anything not needed. It cost me $20 more than at GEF but there is no wait.

Well that is good for you but Paul Greenflash00 can vouch for their less than honest service. He ordered a Tlok and 4.10 gears and they said they were in stock. He gets the gears and a letter saying the Tlok was on backorder. They would not cancel the order. When it finally came he came up here to Greenville to have them installed. The gears made a terrible whine. They try several times to readjust the gears ands it was useless. The place specializes in gears and differentials installation and they said the gear set was bad. GEF would not take it back or send new ones saying " they had been installed and voids the warranty" What a load of crap. But they did say they would give him 10% off the next order. What a pile of crap. Paul ordered a used set of gears from Terry @ Midwest and all was good.
Ok for my problems When I bought my 98 cobra rims from them they sent me 2 that were not true They had flat spots. When I called them they asked if I had installed tires on them. I said yes. They proceeded to tell me " They were sorry but the warranty was void since tires were installed and were somhow damaged on the installation equipment. Total Horse Shit.
Their warranty means nothing. They dont stand behind what they sell, they try to weasel out of any responsibility to replace anything. Remember GEF is Gene Evans Ford. They are a dealership that added a performance shop to their dealership and as a dealership they can be weasels and try to squirm out of any warranty issue they can.
