my car has found a way to piss me off very much. as i was leaving work today i started my car. i put my foot on the brake to pull the shifter out of park and to my suprise, the little fucker wont budge at all. the only way i can get the car out of park is turn the car on (not start it up) and pull in into neutral, then start up the car and put it in reverse or drive.
what the hell is wrong with my car?

there is a lock that locks your shifter from being moved without the key being on
its a safety device, so your car cant be put in nuetral without the key in and on

so it's could be just a bad sensor, nothing major then?

Check the brake light circuit. I had the same problem with the Ford AOD on another car that the brake light circuit fuse blew and it would not shift out of park. Sounds like the feds over regulating us again.

It is probably something very simple like that fuse thing, Since its so new, just take it to your dealer and have them fix it, find out what is was though.

thanks for the suggestions guys.
it works now. it started to not work the day after my subs were hooked up. i brought it back b/c the amp would not shut off b/c the remote wire was in a fuse that was always on, so the bass would come out of the subs even when the car was off completely. he fixed the remote wire and when i got home i put the car in park as it was running, and shifted it out just fine.
i dont really know what happened or how it was corrected, but it works now and i guess that's all that matters

Most of the time if it will not shift out of park check to see if you have any brake lights. No brake lights=no shift out of park

Stupid moron....I swear. He didn't even do the remote wire right...I'd hate to see what he did with the rest of your wiring.

geez.
The shift interlock is a cable, not a sensor or a fuse involved. One end of the cable goes to the brake and the other to the shifter. When I pulled my dash to replace the heater core I didn't seat that cable aall the way and it would not go out of park. I instantly knew what the problem was.
The reason for this interlock, brake has to be on to pull it out of park, is becaue idiot Volvo drivers were having "unitended accelration" issues and sued Volvo because they were too stupid to put the brake on before putting the car in drive. Imagine what happens when an engine is at fast idle and you put it in D. It goes and the brain dead volvo drivers took too long to realize that they should have stepped on the brakes, so they ran into things. That lawsuit prompted almost every manufacturer to develop a system to keep themselves out of court. No feds involved in any regulation.
