hrm...the password is usually 1234 for routers that have just been setup, and most people don't even care about the username/password, so try that.

If they have a password setup for their router that is different than default you could trip their power for a few mins then the pass word would reset to default in most cases (after a time limit) but the default password depends on the router.
Do you know what kind of router your neighbors are using? I could give you a walk through...
Although you don't want to do anything illegal, what you are doing is very illegal. Just using someone's internet even with their permission is against the provider's policy in most cases.

Need to know the type router
On older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin
on netgear default username admin password is password or older devices password is 1234 except ReadyNAS products

Maybe the movie was just the way for those that escaped to communicate with us and get us thinking about it to realize our world is all fake. Maybe it's Neo talking to us.

You could be setting yourself up for some serious trouble. If you want some Internets, call freakin' AOL and pay up like everyone else does.

If you find an unsecured wireless network, they obviously aren't savvy, or just don't care. If you ever got caught just say you thought it was a free hotspot. It's not your fault they are broadcasting their unsecured network into your house. If you ever get taken to court, start a big ruckus about their wireless waves trespassing into your home and giving you brain cancer, and sue for millions. AMERICA!

Yeah, even 1.5mb cable/dsl is relatively cheap.

Just go to Starbucks, other place that has free WiFi.
Cablevision has installed WiFi antennas in many of the business districts here and many parks too and all the train stations. The WiFi is free for all Cablevision Online subscribers. Many local coffee shops, eateries, and businesses also have WiFi for their customers and the towns have been installing their own WiFi access for town residents in local parks and all. Can also try other public and public funded places like libraries.
Of course this is only good if you have a laptop and you are out and about in these areas and just logging on, meaning not your home's access.

as long as the connection isn't protected in anyway you'll be fine, sorta, its the equivilent of walking into someones home with the door wide open.
however, the ones that you say "have the lock thingy" on them can easily be cracked unless they are using wpa2.0 typically in around 5 minutes... this can get you in some trouble though... think of it the same as lock picking a door, now your breaking and entering.
BTW I used to war drive alot when I was younger, it was a great way of finding out how "technical" a said area or city was. you know seeing what technology was there and how well it was guarded, now a days though everyone has wifi, even retarded backwoods trucker types ... never connected to a WAP or WPA router other than my own as a show of how insecure those methods have become. its not the right thing to do.
