89 5.0 gt_ rear diff. Cutting into cover

Serious metal on metal sounds when there is no load on drivetrain
removed axle housing cover, very small amount of shavings. Looked at the inside of housing cover & ring gear is cutting into
the cover. Ring gear also has 4 or 5 marks like someone hit it with a hatchet. Any advice is greatly appreciated bros.

if its hitting the cover the bearing have to be bad (but i'm no expert)

Sounds like you are going to have to do a full rebuild. You might even have to get a new diff. Your definately going to need the rebuild kit that includes all the seals and bearings, new ring and pinion, and the fluid. Now is a good time to upgrade to a better gear ratio though. If you do, don't forget about your speedometer.

yea something isnt right, the diff unit is wiggling or something~ you should rebuild it all.
