Alright, I think this is the right section. The plastic thing at the base of the gear selector is now not there (long story). How do I fix this? I'd assume it'd be pretty easy to replace myself, I just can't find the part I need. Any links/info would be appreciated. It's an 06' v6 automatic. I'll include some pics in case I didn't describe it well enough.

pick up a new shifter: MGW, Pro5.0, Steeda Tri-Ax, or UPR Blue Thunder would be good selections

I doubt that FORD sells that piece seperatly and will probably want to sell you a new factory shifter.
For an automatic there is only one option currently available for an aftermarket replacement.
TCI Street Fighter...

Ugh! I hate that piece, they alway broke on my old cars. One of the benefits of now having stick I guess.
As for replacing it first you have to find that part and to be honest I don't know where to go just to get that piece. I remember on my old Escort I stopped into the Ford service center and asked them, don't rememeber the outcome (I'm such great help) but I wound up walking out.
The black plastic trim around the shifter pops right out and you will probably have to remove the top of the center console in order to remove the rest of the trim/gear selector. Remove the top of the actual shifter and slide the new piece into the trim/gear selector and slide that over the shifter.
You need to remove parts of the center console to take out the radio which I wrote a "How To" on and that could help get you started and try and figure out the rest. Search the forum for "05-09 radio install" (</end shameless self promotion>)
