So.. Anyone wanna go into the details on how difficult it would be to do a rear-axle transfer or conversion or w/e from the v6's 7.5 to the 8.8?
I figure when I get more power in then engine department, (later on), I'll need a better set-up back there to keep from shattering axles.

It's all bolt-in. You can do it in an afternoon in your driveway with hand tools a few friends.

the gotchas for the swap will be ABS on a non ABS car or visa versa and remember 94-98 vs 99-04 have different length 8.8 rear ends.

^ I'm hoping to find a 8.8 from a 2005-09 GT, and I do not have ABS.... even though I kinda wish I did.

Hmm, I'm not sure how the differential works with the late models but the swap should be pretty straight forward. You may need to do some research and find somebody who has done the stock for stock swap so far.

Heard its pretty easy! got a freind who did it.....but you know...now they got a 9.0 rear swap for our car! its made for the v6. saw on article on it, give me a day and ill look for you the name of the company.
only thing you gotta think about is that itll be harder to get gears, 8.8 gears are common.

wow yea not a bad price at all, I remember back in the day you could buy 8.8s for my style car for 700 with 3.73 rear gear... then they went up to 1200. Might be a good investment to buy and resell later lol

^ I saw one one v6stangs.com for like 559.99 I guess I know now what the price I'm looking at. And it also says that my driveshaft is gonna be just fine... so I'll probably end up getting an aluminum one while I'm at it.

if you going to change the rear end out here are a few ideas...
1. mark the shocks so that you know your ride hieght
2. you will need to get new bolts and nuts as ford said not to use the old hhardware.
3.dont support the rear axis by lifting on the center pcs..
4.the gt rear will bolt right up without any trouble,, its a direct replacement
5.when you do this think about adding better lower control arms and sway bbar.
6 it takes about a day to do this and if you have a friend to help with the other side it goes a lot fastest.
7. when you are finish you will see no more wheel hop... just two striaght lines on the ground ....lol
if you need front and rear sway bars i have a set of factory gt that are brand new never used i well sell you... $125 for the set plus shiipping

Yeah the 8.8 I got from Midwest Mustang was about $1300 with freight. Then again they told me they'd rebuild the trac-loc too. I got it, put it in and it whined like a bitch. They never set any gear lash when they assembled it. So then I had to pay another $300 to do what they charged me for in the first place.
I was very disappointed that they made no effort at all to make that right.

if you buy from take off part ... they are brand new axis... with only 14/ 25 miles on them they go right in without any problem with gear lashing problems
if you have to put on the front pcs to hook up the v6 drive shaft becareful not to tight to much as the nut is measured in INCHES POUND TQ not FOOT POUNDS.
