I find it hard to believe that the repairs can cost that much. What was the sticker on the car, can't be more than double the repair cost. No wonder our insurance rates are going up.

Sticker is $79,995 plus the $1300 gas guzzler tax. That shelby tax is a bitch. Plus, I doubt the guy paid sticker unless he knew someone at the dealership.

Ok, after reading the link in the link...18k for a hood? Um, I know there is a shelby tax, but I am sure that is about as far off as one can be on pricing.

yea thats WAY off who ever gave that estimate is trying to rip him off. The shelby is only worth about 5k over a regular shelby to begin with... its funny when they nearly double the price for what little crap they put on the KR... talk about a let down car.

I would have a hard time justifying that price for a KR just to say I have one. It does not seem to me it is worth that much more that the reg GT500. 18K for a hood seem like a rip off to me also, if that is the case then that is why the KR is 20k more.

Complete BS. The ford dealership here in town has KR for right around 96k, which is also bullshit. They have a regular GT500 in the showroom with the KR for 72k, so why would the KR be so much better? It's not. Idiots will pay anything, especially idiots with money.

There's still one on the showroom here for 125k. They had to replace the front splitter and the dealership could not even get a replacement. Ended up with a SS splitter instead, brand new car with the wrong parts.

hell just do what i did... pay for the cheap one and make it look like a expensive one... you'll have way more pride in your car if you build it than buy it!!!

Sounds like someones been lubed with vasaline for a 31k repair.

 Everybody knows that Shelby American tries to "set the bar higher"-with expensive parts and "low" production numbers. Carroll is smiling all the way to the bank. All of the parts on the Shelby-ized GT cost 2900.00 from FRPP-but there is a 6700.00 "upcharge" on these cars at your Ford dealers lot -for their? labor + the nameplate in the engine compartment?

This happens everywhere. Just think about the type of person that would buy a 100 thousand dollar mustang. Obviously they have lots of money, and/or absolutely no intelligence. Its more of an idiot tax than a shelby tax.

If the hoods that much why not just use a carvinis hood thats exactly the same style. You can get it in carbon fiber for under $700.

I assume its a typo, its probably 1800 from shelby (sounds about like the right amount of rip off) not 18,000

I met a guy the other day in a Shelby GT and he needs to get the stripes redone on his car. Well he says that the dealer has to get the ok from Shelby to redo them under warranty. If i was going for an ultra performance Mustang I think I might go with a Saleen or Roush. |

From what I understand the Shelby GT is an after market car like the Roush and would be warrantied by Shelby for the stripes. Only the Shelby GT500 is made at Ford and completely warrantied by Ford.

For those that are doubters I have been watching the original thread on spoken torque and the facts have been confirmed.
There have been some articles posted stating the price has been lowered ( Shelby lowering price of $20k GT500KR hood after web outrage erupts — Autoblog) but that is in fact false. As stated in the original thread, if the price was changed don't you think the owner of this particular model would be aware?
As a matter of fact, the final bill for just the hood on this matter is $23,854.60... and to top it all off, the hood was cheaply packaged and was damaged on shipment, meaning they will now have to go through this whole ordeal again.
If you doubt me, look at the facts yourself and come to your own conclusion.

this is ridiculous, now, i would NEVER buy one of these. ill stick to a v8 s197 or at most id extend myself to a gt500.

When I bought my GT500 I knew I was paying for a little more than overpriced Mustang. The problem was I wanted one and so I had to pay. I was not going to pay the premium price most dealers wanted when they were first produced, so I waited.
We all know that anything with Shelby on it is overprice but that is totally ridiculous.

did shelby design or have nething to do with the 99-04 cobras? I never hear them being called a shelby cobra or recall seing the name on them |
