I drove through an intersection on the way home from work today, at the speed limit, like I usually drive in neighborhoods around here, and I see a cop take a right where he's been waiting for the light to turn green so he could go straight. I think, great. Now I get followed again.
So he does follow me for about a block. I made a turn and he followed. So I turned into my old high school parking lot to see if he follows. He does, and then cuts on his lights.
I wasn't doing anything wrong, again, and I get pulled over. So I cut off the car, the windows were already down, and wait on him to get to my window. He says, "How you doing today?" and I say, "Good, until about one minute ago." He asks, "Well, what's the problem?" and I tell him that I got pulled over while doing nothing wrong for the second time in about 2 weeks. He says, "Well, I turned to follow you for one reason." I'm like He says, "I saw you drive through that intersection, and you were going the speed limit. Something seemed suspicious. I thought I'd follow you for a minute to see what you were up to, and you pulled into here." At this point, I'm thinking, "is this a joke?" but he is serious as all get out.
He asked me what I was doing at the school, and I told him I pulled in there because a cop was following me for no reason and I didn't like it. He told me I had no business being there. I said, "Well, I did graduate from here, and you know what? Since I'm here, I think I'll go visit some of my old teachers who ASKED ME TO COME VISIT THEM." He stands there a second, then goes, "Well you have a good day." and goes back to his car.
He never asked for ID or for insurance. Didn't mention my OMG illegal tint I got a ticket for. Didn't mention the tag that one cop told me prohibits him from seeing when my tag expires (it doesn't).
It pisses me off when cops single people out and follow them, even if they are doing nothing wrong. I know there are better things for police officers to be doing than tailing someone who looks suspicious because they are following the law. I mean seriously, since I look suspicious driving the limit, should I just speed?
Cliff notes: I get pulled over for going the speed limit, no ticket.

this is EXACTLY what i am talking about. he stopped you b/c of the reason i stated before-----young guy in newer sports car = has to be trouble. yet another subject of profiling. i know how you feel. i respect cops b/c of what they are supposed to do (and most of them do) but there are some instances (this one and some of mine) that just make me question "does this guy have anything better to do than harass me?"

well, thats why you never pull over voluntarily. You look guilty if you do that. Let them follow you. There is no harm in that if you're doing the speed limit right?
Think about it.... a guy robs a bank and gets in his car to get away. He evades cops for the first 15min from the robbery and is out driving his car. You think he is going 20mph over the limit drawing attention to cops that haven't gotten the bulletin yet, or is he going the speedlimit to blend in? If you are too careful, you usually draw suspicion. Be more lax and drive about 2mph over the limit, or with traffic. A cop won't pull you over if the whole pack is doing 5mph over as long as you're just cruising and not doing anything stupid.
Be loose and you wont get as much suspicion.

they can only pull you over with just cause, else its illegal, that can include looking like your up to something... but they have to have a reason.

I got pulled over a month or so ago. There was two highways coming together into to and I was doing 68 in a 65, had the cruise set. A cop is on the other highway merging into the lane next to me. I see him, double check my speed and continue on. He gets up along side me a points at me, I'm like WTF? So I contiune on, then he gets behind me and flips the lights on. So I pull over.
He comes up all full of attitude and tells me I musta been doing 80, I tell him "no, I was doing 68, I had my cruise control set". The he asks me if I know what the speed limit is and I tell him 65. He claims it isn't 65 but rather 55, I give him the "your a moron look".
Then he asks me if I was racing the guy behind me, whom he had also pulled over. I ask him if he knows anyone that races with the cruise control set. Then I tell him if I had wanted to race people in a Mustang I would have sprung for the V8 5 speed and not the V6 auto version. At this point I am pissed at him and am basically daring him to write a ticket so I can show him to be an idiot in court.
He goes back to harangue the other driver and I look around. Guess what I see? A 65 MPH speed limit sign. After running the license and romancing a doughnut in his squad car, or whatever it is he does in there he comes back and lays this idiot logic that since the maximum speed limit on I35 (a different highway thru town) is 55 there is no way the speed limit on this highway is 65. As he is taking in another breathe to further prove his ignorance I merely point at the 65 mph speed limit sign I noted earlier. He gets all red faced at me and then asks me if I thought my speed was too fast for the conditions, there was a light rain going on.
I told him that since he had no clue how fast I was going or what the speed limit was why should I believe he could determine I was going too fast for the conditions. That pretty much ended the conversation and the stop.
I don't mind taking my lumps for a legit gripe but you can stuff it up your backside if you're gonna try to hang BS on me and I'll make it clear regardless of who you are.
Steve

I don't give a fuck if he hated my windshield banner or not, and I didn't pull over voluntarily, for all he knew, I had a reason to go to the school. And I kinda did, cuz I went and talked to an old teacher of mine.
He was just a dumbass who wanted to pull over the white kid in the sports car.

^ What's all that for?
I don't hate the job of a cop, it's a respectable thing to do, but when there are assholes doing things like that, it pisses me off. You know as well as I do that those assholes have better things to do than fuck with people who aren't doing anything wrong.

Now dont you get that tone with me mister!!!!! I am not the one who pulled you over. Hell for all I know he might have stopped you because he was hoping for a blow job or thought you look like bin laden!!!!
Your in a mustang and you are young DEAL WITH IT!!!!!!
It could be worse. You could be driving a Civic with a big wig and fart cannon and he could have pulled out his baton and beat the living crap out of you
